2016 Ram 8 speed trans noise?

Hi everyone,

Bought my first ram with 5.7l with the 8 speed trans, so far I am loving it, but have noticed a strange off and on rubbing noise some where in the power-train.

Its been shifting really rough when cold and has a strange off and on rubbing noise coming from the transmission as you drive down the road, regardless of rpm's, but is more noticeable in the lower gears?

Anyone hear of similar issues? Care to share the cause? Have an appointment for mid next week to have it looked at but would like to get some ideas to check some things over.

How many miles? If its under 36k and you can reproduce the issue take it to a good dealer and they should fix you up.

I have the same transmission and it doesn't make any noise. I have heard of some having hard downshifts or a clunk on downshift but don't think.I have seen many with hard upshifts. Defenetly need to take it to the dealer too see what the nose is. Hopefully you will get a good Tech who knows what he is doing. In so many cases we see dealers say things are normal when they aren't. Stay persistent until you get the noise figured out. It is not normal.

I have a 2016 as well, in 5 months and 5200 miles, truck has been perfect (way more than I can say for my Viper....)

Trans shifts perfect, no noise. So, your issue is Not normal - document, and pick up a good I expensive digital recorder, and see if can capture the sound it's making.

mine shutters alot when its cold out, just before the shift points. nice out now, so cant show dealer my issue. does not happen when its warm out. ill keep you updated when fall and winter get here.

I have noticed something similar but when I am first starting the truck or coming to a complete stop, mainly when its hot out? Its hard to recreate so far but I will be considering the possibility of it being related to the trans

If it becomes more consistent or if you feel it's a major concern, I would bring it to a certified dealer for proper diagnosis - Kevin T, Social Connect Team
