ECO light is just a light showing high vacuum while driving (economical conditions) and does not indicate that the MDS is active.

My truck has a low restriction exhaust and I can hear the MDS kick on and off, even though the ECO light is on steady.

An Update: The CEL and ECO indicators come and go. Lately, it has been gone for days. The fuel gauge is okay. Tach show 1250 RPMs @ 55 mph. ECO would come on when on level pavement driving and off when going up a hill. Cruising on level terrain, the Tach showed 1500 rpm while on 7th grade. Shifting to 8th gear the rpms drop but the ECO light does not come on. I do not know if I am in 4 cylinder mode or 8 cylinder mode. Need some advice.

Just because that light is on, doesn't mean you are in MDS mode. That green light is what we used to call an "idiot-light" to show you have high vacuum ie: economical driving. For MDS mode there is no indication.

Correct. Manual shift function disables it.

Only way I know when in regular mode, is I can hear the exhaust note change when it kicks in and out (and feel it at lower speeds).
