In recent weeks I noticed that the idle was a little rough at times, but the truck seemed to drive OK and engine roughness wasn't noticed while driving it and at that point it showed no codes stored in the computer. I put fuel system cleaner in one tank of fuel with no improvement.
Fast-forward to today. . .the idle roughness got markedly worse and I finally got a check engine light with the P0307 and P0300 codes stored. The other thing that's happening now is when starting the truck, it will at times just spin over without the engine firing. Retrying the start will get it running, but it cranks much longer than it should now.
I've got an appointment to get it to the dealer, but I was wondering what you guys think the culprit is. This truck does NOT have any noticeable tick or other unusual engine noise--it has always run smooth until the last few weeks. Even now it sounds OK, just not smooth anymore. With only 22,000 miles on it and the lack of engine noises, I'm thinking (hoping) it's something simple. What say you?
NOTES: because someone will ask, I use Valvoline 5w-20 syn oil, changed at 5000 mile intervals. I use this truck like a car with a big trunk--it's an urban warrior. I'm not driving it further until it goes to the shop.
