I got a newer junkyard motor to throw into my 2012 truck. I have the 6 speed trans. Didn't realize the new motor had the 8 speed trans.

I found out when the motor wouldn't fit! So I pulled it back out to compare. The flywheels are different. Not a big surprise.

But - there's a spacer on the rear main making it smaller where it mates to the tc.

Has anyone ran into this? I'm thinking of trying to grind off the spacer. Or find a bearing puller that fits in?

8 spd - note the extra pressed in spacer in the center of the crank end.

You might want to do some further investigation if the engine electronics will work between the years. I thought I remember ready the engine time rings are different so the ECM won't be able to read the crank sensor correctly.

You will for sure need all electronics/sensors from your old motor and pics dont work.

Bump for working pics

Crash - I've done a similar swap in the past and used the old tone ring sensor on the newer motor and it worked good. I've read that too though. I think the 2008 and older Hemis have the 32 tooth, 2009 and older have the 58 tooth. 2012 and later have a different size (thickness) 58 tooth, which shouldn't matter unless your playing with the internals and ordering parts.

I currenlty have a pilot bearing puller I'm experimenting with to get that spacer out lol.

For anyone else looking for help in the future - the Harbor freight blind bearing puller #62601 will remove the bearing/spacer on the crank. Connect the biggest one and it'll slide hammer out with WD-40. After that, the 2017 engine into a 2012 is plug and play. Use old sensors. Tone ring isn't an issue.

The 2017 intake didn't work for me. Check if you've got hydroboost or intake mani vac boost for your brakes. Not a big deal to use your old intake if your brakes need vacuum.

Ok, so you've been there and done this before. I knew there was a difference in some of the internals including the tone ring for the crank just wasn't sure of what changed for what years.
