^^^ sorry have to chuckle on that one. Wait til you use up all your old oil before trying redline, because once you go red you wont go back.
Ive been redline for awhile now. I always have my supplies on hand. The PUP started out great, reordered oil and then seemed to get noisier. Thats when I made the switch. Cant use it in my other vehicle (DI turbo).

^^Trust me, you'd know it immediately the second you tried to get a filter wrench on it. If it is taller than a10-48 you’d be Houdini to get a metal tension type wrench or an end cap cup on it.
With a 10-48 I use both hands to get as tight as my 6’4” 260lbs can then I snug it up with the metal strap wrench just a bit. The fact you have to use both hands and preload the wrench and then only get about a 10 degree turn out of it...repeat and call it quits.
No chance in hell I’d try the bigger filter, just rely on my RP Synthetic mesh filter to do it well...

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and Redline are not available off the shelf anywhere either...agree with Wild above, PUP was noisier in my 5.7 than Redline. Both 5w-30.
Basically go to the thread “Synthetic Oil” theres like 30,000 posts. Everything you ever wanted to know.
Redline’s formulation has a lot of certain goodies in it that help prolong the 5.7’s life and combat certain types of wear. Of course in combo with a good filter too.
I get my RL off the shelf locally at a baxters auto. And it's about the best price I can find at 11.49/ quart.

That fits on trucks with the electronic steering?

The bigger RP 20-820 filter fits the later trucks with ease.Do not follow ThunderMugs advice on tightening the filter, sooner or later his technic will bite you in the ass.You tighten till the gasket contacts the base, then give it at most another 3/4 turn.

Mobil 1 5w/20 here with Mobil 1 filter changing at 7500 miles. Confident I can probably get to 500K as I'm keeping this truck for life!

I am using Amsoil 5w20 Signature Series good for 25k w/ the 15k Amsoil Oil Filter but I change my oil every 5k. The truck shows that on average 50 to 60 % that the oil is still good when I change it at 5k.

^^^^ Read the oil filter thread in that guys signature, oil filters matter as well. Fram Ultra paired with PYB is a decent strategy.
Whole lot of 'maybe's' out there. any good 5W-20, changed regularly will do the best. Otherwise you're paying for a lot of hype and good ol' boy stuff. The manufacture know the best balance between engine life, economy, performance etc. Sure you can bend more towards one item or another but at a cost at some point. Oil (synthetic or conventional), filters (Fram vs K&N, vs Mopar vs whatever), and how the vehicle is sued or abused are all trade point. Just take care it and you'll be just fine.

^^^Here are some facts for you. The 5.7 and 6.4 hemi's are very similar motors, so similar they use the exact same MDS lifters (same part number). Yet the 6.4 hemi is rated to use 0W40. Why? C.A.F.E. government regulations. 5W20 in the 5.7 hemi is nothing more than the manufacturers attempt to squeeze a tiny amount of fuel economy out of the half ton. Why not the 6.4 in the 3/4 ton? Makes one wonder doesn't it? What you call good ol'boy stuff I prefer to call research done by many people right here on this site. I also know that the government and the manufacturer do not have my best interest at heart just their own.

We have also seen that "just taking care of it" doesn't cut it either as there have been many cases of documented cam and lifter failures seen right on this site. Mostly in the 5.7 hemi and almost all (if not all) of them running 5W20.

I plan on using Pennzoil 5w30 or 5w20. I'm not much on synthetic oils so I was planning on using conventional oil.
Seen some things about PUP and Redline oil (dont know what those are)
Please enlighten me.
I think you running a conventional oil is a great idea; we need someone on the forum to run conventional and provide some feedback. How it performs and how the engine sounds. If you could do used oil analysis from Blackstone laboratories and post a report in the synthetic oil thread that would be awesome.

If you are concerned with warranty go with PUP 5w30, if not go with Redline 5w30. Redline got rid of my tick immediately after i switched (67k miles of dealer oil prior to) and after 1400 miles on RL the engine quieted down considerably. Pair that with the RP 20-820 filter and you have a great combo!
If your concerned about warranty then its 5w20 --not 5w30--Im sure other members will chime in on that.

I drive 6000 miles a year, I have changed my oil every 6 months to avoid moisture. I currently use 5W30 PUP and an RP 10-48 filter. I’m at 12k miles now and June is my 6 month mark. I've been thinking about switching to Redline, with my low mileage use would I be wasting money or is it really that much better?

I have been using Schaffer's Supreme 9000 in my 2016 5.7L hemi and it has been working great. I have heard a lot about this oil and it seems to be one of the best. I had been using Mobil 1 before, but read that Mobil 1 is all about marketing and not about quality oil.

Is it still "a whole lot of maybe's" and "just good 'ol boy stuff" when there are dozens of UOA's to back up the claims?... "The proof is in the pudding", and "Read 'em and weep" come to to mind...

Maybe Jesus is real, maybe he isnt. Maybe the moon landing was faked, maybe it wasnt. Maybe the Earth is flat, maybe it isnt...

I would say yes, but perhaps I'm a little biased being a bit of a RL fanboy. My SRT is going to be 3 years old and only has 8k on it. Doing 6 month OCI's with PUP 0W40 per the book, before it was tuned, I would start getting the cold start tick about 4 months in only taking it out for occasional road trips or once a week for a quick Sunday drive. Moved it to RL 0W40 on 1 year OCI's and it starts quiet every time. My Ram sees about 10k m/year and I run close to 5k/6 month OCI's on RL5W30 or if I get a case of quality 0W40 cheap(PUP or Edge A3/B4) I'll use that. It likes the RL a lot better if you factor in cold start noises and overall smoothness of the motor. I did the math and the extra cost isn't all that much for the benefit many have documented in the Syn thread doing UOA's on our Hemis.

So if I go with RL 5W30 your saying I can switch to just 1 year OCI since I only drive 6K a year?
