I noticed this morning that the bulb is burned out on the passenger side, and the headlight on the driver side has a bunch of condensation in it. Whatever lights they are, theyre not too bright and Im wanting to replace the whole assemblies with some that are insanely bright and that will light up the road even on the sides a bit as we have a lot of suicidal deer around here. I started looking for some online and realized I dont have a clue what to get. I think projector is probably better, and Im pretty sure I want LED. So I was looking at these:
But then it says this:
Guaranteed Fit
2017 Ram 1500
Fitment notes:
with Factory LED Projector Headlights, Factory LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), Factory Halogen Headlights
Will not fit Models with Factory Quad or Dual Headlights.
I dont know if I have what theyre calling Factory Quad or Dual Headlights, so I included pics of what is on the truck at this time.
Certain aspects of upgrading to LED bulbs are often misrepresented, such as to say Quads of Duals don't function well with LED or that all LEDs have dead spots.
I would say that both these details may have been accurate in some instances years ago, but the LED technology has been advancing rapidly in recent times.
Sure, Projector housings might provide better light dispersion, but installing the correct LED bulbs in whatever housing you have should prove to be a spectacular improvement.
And, I have worked with several members who have been very pleased after LED upgrades in both Quad & Dual housings.
While HID lighting is tough to beat, you have to pay for that with additional costs, a shorter lifespan and more complications of additional wiring and a ballast module to mount.
There are many threads created by members who have corrected and solved the condensation issue. I wouldn't ditch your Quads without making an effort to fix that problem first.
When I first started buying Fahren LED bulbs, the typical light output was rated at 8K lumens. I could see the difference when I upgraded by 2K lumens.
I currently use 10K lumen Fahren bulbs in the low beams and 15K lumen Auxito bulbs in the high beams in the OE Projector housings. They are insanely bright.
Fahren bulbs are now available in 20K lumens and more. My only warning about buying any LED bulbs is that they're not a standard size; be careful to choose a bulb that has been reviewed here or elsewhere by someone who has installed them successfully in the same type of Ram housings.
Fahren manufactures a couple of specific bulbs that are a lower profile for installation in OE housings with less clearance. Many members have been surprised to find that the OE back covers would no longer fit after installing the wrong bulbs. Then they buy new and deeper back covers. Mine are still the OE covers.
I would explore correcting the condensation problem and then try out a set of these Fahren bulbs.
At $32, that's not a huge gamble. They used to be warrantied for 3 years if you registered.
Be aware, you may find a better deal on a 4-pack to change both high & low beams.
You will want both to be LED.
If you don't want to deal with the condensation problem, how about looking for Projector housings at a wrecker?
