Hello everyone,
new to the ram forum with my first post. i thoght i'd join since my son just bought this truck a few weeks ago. we replaced both filters on it today and while i was under the truck replacing the rear filter, i couldnt help but notice the size of the driveshaft. it looked like at the yoke the aluminum shaft was (i'm guessing) was about 4-5 inches in diameter, then after a few inches the diameter increased to 6-7 inches. anyone happen to know what kind of horsepower this driveshaft can handle? Thanks -- Brian

The only driveshaft failures I have heard of are from off roading and setting it down on a rock or something sharp. In that situation they quickly turn into a pretzel. Otherwise, I think other parts would be the weak link...not the driveshaft.

^ Agree. The transmission will let go (68RFE) WAY before the drive shaft will.

It can handle all the HP that makes it out of that transmission. Aluminum driveshafts are normally quite larger than a comparable steel one to handle the torque & twist. GM also have used aluminum rear driveshafts for years.
