I've had my 2018 Ram 2500 with the 6.4 hemi for almost a year. I do some towing occasionaly to our camp in the mountains of central PA. On my last trip i noticed that my down shift option on the gear selecter arm was not working. im pretty sure i had it in tow haul mode. my question is .... does tow haul have to be on to use this and if not what could be the problem? is there a fuse some where? i did take the rubber off the selector arm and saw a wire coming out. could this wire be bad?
thanks

I'm not sure what "selector arm" you're referring to. My ERS controls are buttons on my steering wheel.

I think on 2018s the gear selector switch is on the column shifter, it was on my '17 but I NEVER used it. Never had a need to because the truck did a good enough job on its own.

To answer OP's questions, NO tow/haul doesn't need to be on, and the wire COULD be bad but I would think that might throw an engine code? Maybe not, I'm not really sure.

On these late model trucks very few functions have individual fuses so it won't be that. Most all functions like that will go to a control module and the module itself will have a fuse but that module controls many things.

Is the display on the dash changing? If not I would probably lean towards the switch itself being bad, or maybe a broken wire.

tow/haul does not have to be on. i use the manual selector every time i get in my truck. i set it to 6th so it locks out ECO and i do not have tow/haul selected unless i am towing

The 6 spd transmission ERS buttons are on the gear shift, the 8 spd transmission ERS buttons are on the steering wheel.

What year did they move the 6 spd ones to the steering wheel? On my '22 CTD it's on the wheel, not the gear shift.

Starting with the '19 model year of the HD trucks is when they switched to the 8HP75-LT 8spd. These trucks don't have the column shifter like the 6 spd transmission trucks.

2019 is when all HD rams, regardless of transmission type, had the ERS buttons moved to the steering wheel.

Check that wire coming out of the shift arm. Mine was broken, 2010 3500. It looks like it caught on something moving the gear selector, the 2 pair wire was cut in half.
