2018 8.4 upgrade issue

So I was able to finally sourced a 2018 8.4 to upgrade from my 5". Backup Cam works.. didn't know that new Bezel wouldn't be compatible with wiring of old bezel so working on getting a harness.. so I currently can't get into dealer mode to find out what FW it's on.

Now.. when I try to connect phone to it, I get communication error 8 on my phone..

Interestingly enough.. they said the truck that the radio was out of was 2018 (VIN Showed 2018 truck) but the Manufacture Date is July, 2020 (could have been factory replace I suppose)

Using OEM samsung cable and several other after market cable. all got the same resultes..

Try updating Google Play Services and/or the AA app on your phone.

phone is 1 week old.. everything has been updated to the latest version.

all old phone info has been deleted on radio.

someone mentioned the issue might be the hub? My hub has 1 usb plug with usb symbol which does work with a flash drive full of MP3s, other plug says USB and seems to only work for charging. I'm gonna get the dual usb w/ dual usb C and see if that fixes things..

I've had both errors. Its always been software related. If you're sure you are updated, try rolling back to previous version if Android Auto.

If you had the 5” radio you need to upgrade the media hub for CarPlay, not sure if AA needs it as well. AA might work but only on the right port.

AA did not work on either port.

I’d put money on you needing the new media hub. Part number I listed previously.

yeah.. probably the harness as well.

For what it’s worth my 21 Classic didn’t need a harness. The usb hub was a direct plug and play.

Just asking, do you have the media port in the arm rest storage compartment? That is where I have to plug my phone into. I also have a Tradesman with upgrade to UAS radio.

yes.. Dual usb port with Aux in the arm rest storage compartment (Jump seat console).

Hub is 68322813ac. Left is media connection, right is USB power only



Which model UAS do you have? what FW? and which phone?

Very curious to know the answer. I have the communications error #8 and have the same phone. I used a S8 and S9 and same issue, but my iphone XR works fine with carplay. I acutally have the hub from a 2019 jeep Compass.

That’s the wrong wrong hub 100% it won’t work. You need 68328704AD . You probably don’t need a harness and it will be a direct plug and play swap mine was.

The good news is it took me 5 mins to swap mine. Pull the cup holder out, remove the fabric around the corners to access the bottom of the jump seat arm rest this will give you access to the two tabs under push them in, then push in the two tabs on top. You should have two holes that give you access to the tabs when the arm rest is removed. I literally just went through this process PM me if you have any questions or ask them here.
