2018 car play radio install

My dad liked the carplay feature in my 2018, so we bought and installed one one in his 2016.

Does anyone know how to put the VIN for the his truck on the radio? He can't activate his wifi or anything because the truck doesn't recognize it.

Dealer says they order radios with the VIN already programmed in it. So what are all you guys doing with the used units you buy off of eBay? Who programs them?
