Does anyone know about the rear end / rear body shake at 55 mph + on Ram Trucks?

Was wondering if anyone has had any of the shaking above 55 with their truck? In relation to the rear section, seats, center armrest shaking. Mine does it but I am not so sure if its that bad or it is just the character of the truck on certain types of roads. Lets put it this way, when I drove mine home on the first day I was surprised because my test drive before purchase was 40 and under. The speed limit is 75 on I-40 here and wow is it vibrator / shaker from the seat back..

Any info, input or service bulletins would be appreciated.

Take it back to where you bought it and ask for road force balancing for all four tires. If that doesn't work I would see about replacing the tires that required the largest amount of weights. If that doesn't work I would have all four wheels checked for straightness. There are other possibilities but these are some of the most common fixes. Good luck!

Thanks,
Great place to start diagnosing, I made an appointment for the road force balance at a local independent and will also have them check for straightness. Good tip on having the dealer replace whatever tires (s) need an an excessive amount of weights. The selling dealer is 60 miles away and the independent is 5 miles, $10 a tire with lifetime balance :).

I doubled checked for service bulletins but wasn't able to find one that directly relates to what you've described. However, while working with your Ram dealer, let us know if you need any assistance. We're available via direct message and would be happy to help.

Thank you ramcares, how is it you would be able to help? The Ram dealer just blew me off, never test drove my truck and told me a story of another truck with the same complaint telling me that on that vehicle they replaced the shocks, balanced the tires and replaced the tires with another set. The problem was still evident and alluded to the fact they they and Chrysler had done all they could and would help further as "that's what they do".

I'm not stupid or gullible but didn't argue with them yet, BUT I did take the truck to a large local independent tire center yesterday for a road force balance. WELL turns out 2 of the 4 Goodyear Wrangler SR A tires have numbers in the 30's, 1 in the upper 20's and one is 16. Goodyear stepped up and will warranty the tires and labor with all 4 will being replaced free of charge today!

A test ride after the change at the affected speeds will tell the story when they are done, hopefully it will be successful. One way or the other needless to say the service writer / service manager / GM at the dealer will be having more of a conversation when I have something to back up my complaint about the shake and displeasure with their inaction to test drive my truck and the liability potential if it had turned out to be something major like a separated tire or loose lugs.

Thank you for your reply and I will post my results.

OK so the update is that 4 new tires replaced under Goodyear warranty by an independent Goodyear dealer fixed 90% of the shake in a 4 day old 100 mile truck. Road force balanced to 8-9 lbs all the way around. :):)
Amazing that the service writer at the dealership wouldn't even address the issue, test drive the vehicle or even seem to care if a wheel fell off :(:(.

Glad you figured it out bud. That’s terrible about your servicing stealership though, call corporate on their ass!

There are three dealers in a county with a land mass larger than the state of Massachusetts. Two of them are owned by the same company and the closest one was TERRIBLE when I had to get warranty or CVT transmission service on my Jeep. That's why I bought the truck from the other company that was 60 mies further away. Little did I know. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for the 1 event as I do all my own maintenance and document everything with receipts. I'll just use one of them for warranty issues.

I'm going to wait till next week when they warranty my mirror and then have a little sit down with the service manager,

Thanks

Yup, I had some out of round tires on my new Power Wagon right off the lot. Rather than deal with the dealer's service department or Goodyear, I traded the stock 33" bicycle tires in on a set of five, new 315/70/17 at Discount Tire. Turned out two of those had to be replaced, but now all is well. Seems you really have to watch the amount of weight used (as someone mentioned) – anything over 3 oz and make them replace the tire. Don't let them try to tell you, "Oh, these tires take a lot of weight to balance." Nonsense.

Discount Tire was the independent that resolved my issue. They do a wonderful job don't they?

Glad you got your problem solved and an upgrade too, I also traded mine in on an upgrade.
They even gave me a copy of the balance and road force lbs report for each tire,

They do. And they hold a patient demeanor in the face of frustrated customers :D

Thanks for circling back, likes2build. Although I am glad to hear the vibration decreased quite a bit, I apologize for the inconvenience you experienced at the dealer. Essentially, our team would make sure all options have been explored (test drive, STAR, second opinion). That's how we could of help toward a potential solution. Should you have a question or concern in the future, don't hesitate to reach out.

Thanks for your reply. What year and configuration is your ram? Do you notice the shake getting worse while towing? I also had a case through crysler they paid for most of 4 new tires but that's all they would do. I would like Chrysler to swap my driveshaft out, the service tech believed that was the cause of the shake.

Dealing with the same issue with my 2018 ram 1500. Center console shakes, seats, floor boards etc. Have had it into the tire shop 4 times multiple sets of different tires. Had it to dealership multiple times as well and they keep saying it is a tire issue. It is currently at the dealership now and i am sure they are not going to have an answer for me. I wish of they didn’t know they would just saw so instead of blaming the tires when it’s obviously not. hoping ramcares sees this so I can get some help on this.

Have your driveshaft checked, both for balance and u-joints. I believe they have to put the shaft on a lathe and spin it up but I'm not sure.

they said they checked driveshaft, axles ect

ordered a new wheel and had them road forced balanced and all is well now
told dealer to shove it and they will never see me or truck again
