I have a 2018 Ram. 2500 miles. This is my first Ram with the 8 speed trans. When driving at about 25 mph and trying to maintain that speed, the transmission shifts down when i lift my foot. To the point it slows down the truck. As soon as I put a little pressure on the pedal it shifts back up. It isn't a hard shift. It seems to be searching for the best gear to maintain that speed. Is this normal or is there something going on?

I have a 2018 as well. It seems normal on these 8 speed transmissions. It almost feels like it’s slightly breaking when it’s slowing down but it’s just the downshift in gears.

Yes. When I am trying to maintain a certain speed, and I lift from the throttle, it down shifts. If i try to coast a bit, i end up slowing more than I would like.

I think its normal, mine does it too. Noticed a few weeks back when driving my daughters Ford Explorer that it does the same thing. Drove hers just before I bought my Ram, so I thought it was strange, but I think its common. If you ask me, they are overthing, just let it roll, I know where the brake is, but there may be some good logic behind it.

Saves the brakes when going down hill. I actually like it. Both mine and a co-workers 2018s do this. Tech at the dealer said it's normal when we asked.

All the 8sp trucks do this , with trucks that have 3:21 gears its not as noticeable as the trucks that have 3:92 gears in them.
