If you have already installed the CarPlay app, connect your Android Phone with a USB connection, when you see the usb message "charging" on the screen, tap that and change it to "MIDI". Uconnect will then recognize your phone and you will get a CarPlay icon on the lower edge of the screen. That lets you use the carplay apps from within uconnect, such as Waze or Google Maps.
I personally prefer Google Maps as you can use offline maps with that that don't drain your data as Waze does. Sadly, Carplay does not work with Here Maps, which are even better offline.
Just to clarify to hopefully avoid some confusion CarPlay is for Apple Devices and Android Auto is for Android devices.
If you have an Apple device and have Waze installed it should show up on the screen. You may have to scroll to the right. If you don’t see it, launch Waze manually from your phone and set it up and it should open automatically on the UConnect screen.
