I tried searching for some answers but came up empty. Looking at trading in the 2019 1500 for a 2020 2500. my 1500 has the 3:92 and it got pretty good mileage all things considered. how much of a difference does the 4:10 rear end make compared to the 3:73 as far as gas use.. Only pulling 8,000 lbs so the tow capacity doesn't come into play. daily driver back and forth, so need to be wise.

I have the 3.73 gears and with the 8hp75 transmission in my 2500; I don't suspect there's any significant difference in economy as there's plenty of overdrive and plenty of low gearing. I would suspect that your driving conditions and driving style will far outweigh any negligible difference between the 3.73 and 4.10's. You'll most likely pay a pretty similar fuel penalty for both of the 2500's over the 1500.
I'll tell you that for a 7,000# truck, it moves out pretty well when you want it to, I was pleasantly surprised coming from a 1500.

4.10 on mine.

I haven't broken 11k towing. Mostly down in 8k range. Certainly pulls that with ease.

Hand calculated I'm pushing 15mpg. Evic will show 15+ when cruising at 60

The difference is about 2k of max towing capacity. I average 13-14 MPG with 4.10s but I like hitting the skinny pedal. My wife will get almost 16 driving like she does.

I wanted 4.10s and my dealer was able to get me what I wanted so I pulled the trigger.

Gearing is going to make no difference in fuel economy but will affect accelleration with a heavy load when you need to safely merge with freeway traffic. With a diesel engine 3.73 gears are fine but with a high reving gas engine 4.10 is my preferred gearing and 3.92 is the best option with a Ram truck.

The only way to guarantee more miles per gallon with a truck is to put on narrower tires or drive slower or both.

I have 4.10's but mine is a 2018 with the 6 speed. My son's truck is identical and we just towed his 8000lb TT 1400 miles to Texas. Mostly flat driving going about 65-70 MPH and I hand calculated 4 tanks. The worst was 8,0 and the best was 8.5 MPG. Daily driving in my truck I am averaging about 12.1 MPG as can be seen on my fuelly link below. That is with about 70% in town driving. Best I have got on the highway empty was about 16.5-17.0. But the truck tows great. Like was said above, keep your speeds down for best mileage. I;m sure if we had went 55 MPH going to Texas we probably could have got close to 10 MPG but would have probably got run over...lol.

If you think you MAY get a bigger trailer in the future then go with the 4.10's. If you are certain that you won't go over 8000lbs then I think either would be fine

I had 3.73 gears in my 2018, and 4.10's in my 2019, economy is virtually identical

So. Switches my display today so it shows current economy. Driving 57 on flat roads it was claiming 19-20....I have a good stretch of road that's about 6 miles between gas stations. I might have to test the accuracy. I've never seen it say that high.

Hand calculated will be roughly 1 MPG lower than your dash readout so 18-19 isn't an unreasonable number for 57 MPH with no stops on flat ground.
