My 2021 Ram 1500 5.7L 65,000 miles also had a rusted oil pan. A garage-kept vehicle that is well maintained, with no rust anywhere else on the vehicle. I complete my own oil changes, and noticed some minor surface rust around 50K, but thought nothing of it, since I'd never had an oil plan issue on any truck I've owned (all fords and all driven to 250K or more). The rust really ramped up when at around 63K I decided to try and strip the rust and paint the pan. The simple act of sanding caused a leak, which I plugged temporarily with JB Weld (fantastic product). Quote from the dealer for pan replacement around 1,800.00 (the original equipment part was 549.00!). Had it done by a local mechanic with after-market part for 1,150.00. The amount of work needed for access to the pan was above my pay-grade.
Something is drastically wrong here; just the oil pan rusts while all remaining parts are perfect? I'd heard mention of cheaper parts used during the COVID supply chain issues? In any event, a major disappointment on what has otherwise been a good vehicle.
