Hello
My truck is a 22 Ram regular cab short bed 2wd with a hemi. The truck has 13 k miles on it. The 3 year 36k warranty expires May 10th. It’s going to the dealer tomorrow for some minor issues. I would love to get some feed back from you guys what might be the problem/ solutions. First problem is the headlights get a little moisture inside and also get dusty on the inside. The dust is very noticeable at night with the headlights on. Not really noticeable during the day because they are the factory blacked headlights. Will the dealer replace these without me arguing with them?
Next issue is when you press the brake pedal with truck running and in park there is a weird clicking sound heard inside the cab of the truck. It only happens when truck is in parking and running. Any ideas what that is?
Next issue is there is a slight humming sound coming from the headlight switch I believe. The radio drowns it out but with the radio off it can be heard. I am pretty sure the noise is from the knob that turns the headlight on / off. With the lights off the sound is almost not noticeable. Last problem is sometimes it takes up to a couple minutes for my dashboard lights to go out after I have left the truck and locked the doors. It is very inconsistent. Sometimes they go out with in 30 seconds or so. Sometimes a minute or so. Sometimes up to 2 minutes. I had an amp and sub installed awhile back. Could that be an issue with this or the headlight switch? I went to a reputable shop and doubt this upgraded speakers, amp and sub have anything to do with my issues. At least I hope not. I would love some feedback on these issues before it goes in tomorrow. I am really nervous and don’t really trust these shops. Hopefully they have some good mechanics on their staff. Thanks

Remove the aftermarket sub and anything attached to it,as there's a good chance they'll try to blame 90% of your issues on it.better to be safe then sorry

If you installed aftermarket accessories the dealer will blame these items for your electronics problems if fixing your headlight switch or your dash lights is not obvious to them. It's easy for them to say it's not their fault you chose to alter the electronics.

My suggestion, focus on the issues. Noise from brake switch, is a Safety concern, (use those words). Are my brakes going to fail??????

Humming from light switch is a Fire concern (again use the correct words). Is my dash going to catch on fire?????

I would also suggest your dash lights are probably related to the humming from the switch. The timer for the lights can be adjusted by the roller switch under the headlight switch.

As to your headlights. Do they function? If so, water or dust inside do not affect operation therefore they are working as designed. They will probably not help you.

My .02. I hope you are successful with the dealer

This is likely the shift interlock solenoid activating when you press the brake pedal. It is what keeps you from shifting into gear without your foot on the brake

I’m worried you’re too worried.

i don’t think forum-buddies can tell you what your un-named dealership’s service dept is going to tell you with regard to how they will view your request for repairs-under-warranty.

One of your concerns can likely be answered over-the-phone: “Hello Mr. Service-Manager, Will headlamps that are invaded by water and dust covered under warranty?”

Answer: “Not if you ever used a drive-through car-wash or pressure-washer on your headlamps.”

Moral: Bigskyroadglide has indicated how important it might be to consider carefully wording your inquiry. I am suggesting you ask the questions over the phone BEFORE taking the vehicle to the dealership. That way, the dealership will be less capable of identifying the actual vehicle with the caller, should you wish to re-phrase the question…. and you can optionally change which dealership you take it to. (Be CERTAIN to take-down the Name with whomever you converse.)

That humming may be active noise canceling .

There is a timed off function that is adjusted from the evic on my 2014 , but mine stays at the 45 second off ,where I have it set . Maybe a battery disconnect , then reset and see if it stays.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see how water intrusion into a sealed headlight can not be covered by warranty. Dust inside headlight? Can’t see how warranty can be denied.

If the headlight comes on, it's functioning as designed. Water or dust is not imParing function.

I fought this issue for about 6 months with dealer on my black projector headlight on the passenger side of my 2016 1500. And my home town dealer is a reasonable dealer. They would not consider warranty claim.

Finally just purchased a OEM replacement on ebay and changed it out. Sold the one with water intrusion on ebay. Clearly listed with evidence of water intrusion for about $50 less than I paid.

It was a time thing for me. I just didn't have the time to continue beating my head against the wall.

Any time over 12/12K is most likely going to be denied when it come to lights/bulbs

A faulty seal is a defect in workmanship. The housing should be covered under the 3year 36000 mile warranty. Light bulbs are covered for a year. That’s the way it worked on my 2011.

Someone may have handled the headlights

When handling headlights, you can change the VENT Settings
then you can get moisture inside the light housing

i think that i have a image from my last Ram

the GREY caps are vents

I pulled this cover off, to see what is under it

My dealer refused to replace my moisture filled headlight housings with dirt and a few flying insects in them when my truck was 2months old. They said because I put in LEDs after I bought the truck new in 23.They had told me to put LEDs in,when I purchased the 80grand truck because the OEM blacked out light housings were on the dim side. To be honest these are not designed well but they do not care.Dummy me

I'm stumped as too why you even think that the dealer would/should replace a bad aftermarket head light under warranty.......

When I had my 19' with quads and was within my 3yr-60km bumper-to-bumper warranty, my dealership had zero issues replacing both headlight housings with new ones even though I had LED's inside.

I suppose different dealers are...different.
Unfortunate for ya, Bro!

I must have spoken incorrectly. My truck was 2months old.The headlight housings were not aftermarket and they were leaking. All I did was changed the OEM lightbulbs with after market bulbs.I was trying to have my crappy OEM housings replaced because they were on a truck I paid 80 g's for and I had dead insects in the light housings.Incidently ,I paid the Dealership 100bucks to inspect the work I performed changing the bulbsand the vents etc. were still open . I am not concerned about it now,and I think I have a nice truck overall.Next time I will keep my language simple. If you read carefully I said in my prior post that these were OEM

As soon as you touched the lights and installed aftermarket bulbs, you gave them an "out",doesn't matter if they were the ones that told you to replace the bulbs or not.Now you'll know for the next time, remove any extra aftermarket parts you've installed before taking anything in for warrenty,as these days they'll use any excuse to deny warrenty.
Some good dealers will look past aftermarket parts, but they're getting harder to find now,as alot of manufacture's have really started to clamp down on aftermarket mods, and will deny warrenty because of said aftermarket parts

Thats for sure and they said so...I don't know where they decide these things. After my purchase of the truck I had the windows tinted.I have the rear slider with the electric grid. After the tint was installed I discovered during the start of winter the rear centre window had no power for the grid. The slider was still operable. The grid only heated up on the left and right side. The truck warrantee covered replacement of the entire back window, that despite the aftermarket tint. I am certain they checked to rule out that the tinter didn't affect anything before they(Ram)approved it.I was pretty happy about that because this was after they declined on the headlight housings,I did think they would. So I give them credit for that...
