I'm considering the purchase of a 2nd Gen 2500 HD as my next (and final?) truck. I've always had a 4WD truck and, since I don't do much off-roading anymore, I'm thinking about getting a 2WD truck, but want whatever I own to be able to get me out of a less than ideal situation.

Were any of the 2nd Gen 2WD trucks fitted with Limited Slip Differentials from the factory? If not, how difficult is it to add one? Since the 2nd Gen have Dana 80 axles, I assume there are plenty of kits.

Yes, My 1500 has it listed on the build sticker under the hood. I imagine it's in the same place on all the trucks.

Some aftermarket ones just replace the spider gears. If you replace an open with a locking or limited slip then you have to reset the clearances, basically rebuilding the rear axle. If you go aftermarket, I'd recomend the detroit true track. It acts like an open diff until you spin a tire then it locks. Similar to a gm G80 locker.
