315/70R17s on stock rims - 2012 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman (Pic Heavy)

So, it was time for new tires/rims and I couldn't afford both at the same time. The tires I had were almost slick, so I needed to buy tires first. I was looking for the largest tire that would fit on stock rims and I came across this thread: http://www.ramforum.com/f17/my_old_outdoorsman-25096/ where GlOcKnRaM had put some on his truck. So, I took the plunge.....

New Tires mounted (Cooper Discoverer A/T3s - 315/70R17)


Front


Front tire - rear clearance with wheel turned (to make clearance as small as possible)


Front tire - front clearance with wheel turned (to make clearance as small as possible)


UCA clearance (its not much!!)


Rubs a little on the front of the UCA at full lock


Rear Tire - Front clearance


Rear Tire - Rear clearance


Rear Tire - Inside clearance

Would negative offset wheels help or hurt with fitting these tires better. I have stock air ride so can't level and am wanting to drop to 17s with 33s or 35s. I would also prefer negative offset wheels so they stick out a little more than stock. What do you think?

Negative offset wheels would give you more clearance on the inside of the tire. However you have to be careful about too much offset as it can cause your tires to rub the fenders. I don't know what the happy medium is. Do some searching on this forum there has been a lot of talk about wheels and offsets.

I do have a level in mine, but I have the 315/70/17 with a 0 offset wheel. It gives me about 1.5" outside the fenders.
