Recommended rim width for a 325 tire is 9-12", so if you have a 9" wheel then go for it. I would still recommend at least a 10" wide wheel for best tire fit and wear. You will cause the tread to "bulge" so to say and will wear the center of the tire prematurely.

All the factory HD wheels appear to be 8" wide from anything I've read.

Well I'm looking to get the Nitto Trail Grapplers... I'm going to decide between 35x12.5 and 325/60.

35x12.5 still wants wider than a 8" wheel close so you can get them on there without any real issue, but will take life of the tire as they wear.

here are the specs
35x12.50R20LT E 121Q
Tread Depth: 21.0
Height: 35.04
Width: 13.39
Rim width: 8.5-(10.0)-11.0 (10" is where they have these specs measured from)
Weight: 3195
PSI 65

I ran a set of 35x12.5R17 grapplers on my old 07 CTD, Best tire I ever put on that truck, we also ran that size on the 05 duelly, but they wore the centers out faster du to being mounted on a 7" wheel

If you're just going for 35s but not necessarily width, my research found that 295/65/20 gets you 35" and 11.6" width which should fit an 8" factory rim. This is what I plan to do

Will those clear on a factory rim or won't there be some rubbing? Factory 20s don't look like they leave a whole lot of clearance for wider tires. What's the offset on the stock 20x8s? Think I saw somewhere that it was +54mm?

On stock 20's I would definitely be sticking with a 35x12.5 as they'll already rub. The 325/60/20's will just give you more problems.

For the record, there's no issue running a wide tire on a rim narrower than the recommended width if you have the room to adjust the tire pressure low enough to give you an even wear pattern. I run 37x13.5 Toyo MT's on a stock 17x7 rim and have no issues with wear at all even though the recommended rim width is 8.5"-11". I just lower the pressure slightly and they're good to go.

Yeah I'm not worried about the "recommended" rim size . I know I can run a larger tire than what the mfg specs say. I'm just curious if anyone has done it. If so I'd definitely want to see pics

Here are some photos

slight rubbing due to the width on inner fender well but nothing horrible.

I just put some General Grabber ATX's on my 2016. They fit perfectly with no lift stock ride height. Very happy with the look and the ride.
They fill up the fender well space perfect.

I tried and couldn't get anyone to mount them due to the wheel being 8" and the spec calling for 9". I ended up buying a set of wheels.

I found a trustworthy company locally and of course they told me all about poor tread wear and how it affects the load rating of the tire but they install them as I asked. I'm running 58psi all the way around and so far wear Mark's on tire are even and across complete tread.
If you find a tire store that is use to putting on off road tires they will install them.
The place I went to is use to seeing customers stretch the limits of tires for off road vehicles so they won't bat an eye at it.

i run the 295/65r20 Ridge Grapplers on stock 20" wheels. they just barely rub the sway bar if at full turn. otherwise, fitment is good for the truck and the wheel.

Show us some pics! I was thinking of going with the 295's but they didn't offer the tire I wanted in that size.
