Hi. I have a 05 4.7. This truck is my baby. First truck i have ever owned. My step son was taking his grandmother home, got 13 miles away from our house & blew the "head gasket". He drove it & it got so hot, it shut off. I have had this truck for 4 yrs, got it from a buy here pay here lot. The only things I have ever had to do was replace the water pump & alternator. I got new heads, a complete gasket rebuild kit, thermostat. Now that the backstory is done. Should I try to fix the motor, get a new short block or cut my losses? If I keep it, what other parts do I need?

If you like the truck, I would get a short block and throw it in with your rebuilt heads. How many miles on it?

I agree I’m on the same boat as you I’m just swapping a new motor I love my truck and don’t want to get rid of it if you rebuild it it will be a brand new truck think about it that way.
