Hi All,

I'm one of the unfortunate few who learned after I purchased my 1500, that my truck came with 3.21 gears!

I am now in the market for a 4" lift and a nice set of 35's and would like to hear from anyone who installed a 4" lift w/ 35's and KEPT the 3.21 gears:

  1. How the truck performed after lifting and adding larger tires?
  2. What specifically will I notice... sluggish off the line performance? Any degradation in shifting?
I have the 8sp tranny, btw...

Thanks!

I don't have a 4" lift, but I have a 2" level with 315/70/17 (34.4"). Mines a 14 with the 8 speed and 3.21's. Even with the larger tires, it still has plenty of power in my opinion. I lost a between 2-3 mpg depending on how I drive, but you've got to pay to play right? So I wasn't real concerned about the mpg loss. I used the Hypertech Speedometer Calibrator to recalibrate the speedometer for the larger tires. I haven't noticed any change in shifting either. I think the 8 speed really helps negate the power loss going to bigger tires with the 3.21's. Is it ideal? Nope, but it's definitely doable. Hope this helps.

Running 35s with a level on 3.21s. Little bit sluggish sounding unless you really step on it. I might be wrong, but adding a lift shouldn't have too big of an impact on your power.

The 8-spd should help you offset the 35s. I am pretty sure there are quite a few guys on here running 35s with 3.55 on the 545rfe/65rfe trans which based on gear ratios should be about the same.

I have about 4" of lift and 3.21's.
I'm running 33's though on wide wheels.

Only ****** part is the downshifting on hills while on cruise control.
Manually limiting the trans to 7th gear eliminates a lot of that.

Idk about a 4 inch but I have 7.5 inches of lift and lean back about a inch and have a 6 speed. Even on the stock wheels you can tell the difference

I know this an old thread, but I have 35x12.5 with a 4.5 inch lift with 3.21 gears. Put the tires on 2 weeks ago. I didn't notice any difference in performance, just a loss in mpg.

Any other mods? I noticed a hit with my 3.92s so I don't know how you haven't noticed it with your 3.21s...
