You guys are gonna make me do this...I have to blame somebody when my wife starts screaming at me...thanks guys

Just start by looking at like Rigid lights and talking about them. Then she will she that crazy price and say no... Then you show her how you found one for under $100 and boom, play ball.

Perfect, but she's played that game before. I might need to buy her something. I waited until Christmas to order stuff because she wouldn't open the boxes but now it's fair game and she's looking at my truck daily asking if this or that is new, lol...

Yeah.... to get my 52" tool chest, I had to agree to let her get a kitchen aid mixer lol. Then she made banana bread and cookies, so I think I won in both cases.

You and me both!!! Lol!!!

Now here's a question because electrical isn't my thing at ALL... I'm all HVAC... But anyways, how would I go about wiring this up for stand alone operation with a switch like he ordered?? What all would I need and how would I wire it in?

Depending on the lightbar you get it may or may not come with a wiring kit.

Ebay/Amazon has a bunch to choose from.

As for wiring it up....YouTube is your friend.

Is there a cooler of any kind behind it? Make sure there isn't so you don't overheat/damage anything.

The fiance doesn't know that I started this project lol. I started this while she was at work and hasn't seen the front of my truck yet. I can't wait for the "What the hell did you do to your truck now?!?!" lol

I'll be doing a write up with the rest of the steps once I get time to work on it some more. As for the wiring, I'm having a friend of mine assist with it since he is a lighting up-fitter for vehicles. Here is how the wiring should go:

-Power wire from light bar to switch inside cab
-Ground wire from light bar grounded to truck (hopefully to a bumper support)
-Main Power wire from switch to battery with inline fuse
-Switch grounded to truck inside cab

This will allow for me to use the light bar with the truck on and off since it will be able to access power at all times.

Ok man sounds good. Thank you! I think this will be a summer/fall project once the wife cools down from all the money I'll be spending on the lift kit/wheels/tires here soon.... :favorites13:

I plan on cutting the bumper insert and installing that along with the switch tonight. Hopefully I will have an update for tomorrow for the write up.

Are you planning on modifying one of the dead switches on the dash, or something different?

Here is a prewired harness with everything needed to wire a light bar (switch, relay, inline fuse). It's made by Rigid Industries but actually affordable and it is the perfect length for our trucks...

Rigid Industries 40190 Wiring Harness for 40" to 50" Light Bar https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D619OGQ/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_rwMJwb1J7RWXQ

I highly recommend adding a relay and inline fuse to the aforementioned setup.

UPDATE

Steps 5 (Cutting/Installing Bumper Insert) & 6 (Switch Installation) have been completed and added to my original post. Also, if anyone knows what the red nylon strap is where I mounted the switch, please let me know.

It is how you put your truck in neutral for towing. It's an electronic transmission that always goes to park on power off, this red strap is the manual override.

It sure does mess up mounting a switch there...

Hmmmm interesting. Thanks! There is enough room to run the wires and have everything mounted correctly though.
