Hello, I have a 2016, 3500 dually with 25k miles. While on a trip last week, going down the interstate at 65MPH, the screen showed that there was an alert that the 4wd servo needed looked at. At the same time the 4WD light on the dash was on as well. I could hear the hubs trying to engage also. I pulled off the road, tried turning the knob to engage the 4wd several times until it locked in, then back into 2wd. Went down the road again a couple hours later and it happened again. Both times it was raining hard.

The dealership said there was a code showing that it happened but since the code was not still showing on the dash, they can not do anything about finding out why this happened. I asked if there were any real mechanics there that can trouble soot problems like this and his answer was no. It needed to have a code showing before they could proceed. When asked what happens if it happens again, and tears something up, the answer was maybe we will know for sure what caused it.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I am sorry to hear this and understand your desire for a solution. Although we cannot provide any technical advice, are you thinking of getting a second opinion? Send us a direct message if so as we'd be glad to escalate your inquiry to a case specialist for further handling.

The dealership wouldn't say. Just that it showed a code or something like that but since there wasn't a "check" light on at the time, nothing can be done. At the times this happened, a notice came up in the large center part of the dash, where the mph were displayed, "Check 4WD Servo". there was also the yellow indicator light to the left and down a bit that shows up when the 4WD is activated and being engaged. It was definitely trying to engage since I could hear the hubs making a grinding noise while trying to slow down to get off the road. This happen twice, both times in a hard rain going over 60 miles per hour.

Hi biggdadd58,

To get a second opinion, you would only need to connect with another dealer and set up an appointment. Once the visit is all set, a Case Specialist can take it from there. Send me a direct message if you're thinking you'd like to take this route.
