Have a "newbie" question. Just purchased a 2013 Ram 1500 4wd and wanted to make sure I used the 4wd correctly when needed. What are the issues if in certain instances I needed to put my truck in reverse while in 4wd? It shouldn't happen very often but is it ok to do so when needed? Or should I change back to 2wd drive then back to 4wd? Thanks.

you can reverse in 4wd with no problem. i just wouldnt use it on dry pavement as it really isnt needed and may damage the components.

snow/loose gravel etc..any surface where you feel lack of traction, no problem using 4wd.

You should at least every three months engage your system just to lube the moving parts, even if it is to drive down the street. 4wd on pavement is ok, it is just that when you turn on pavement your front end will bind up. So before you make a turn especially sharp ones just be in 2wd. Best to use it when offroad or in snow. 4w High you can go into when moving but I prefer to be close to stopped, and I always stop and put in neutral for 4wd low.

As said, no issues reversin in 4wd I always fully stop and put in neutral to engage mine, 4 high and 4 low.
