Yeah I do have the 8-speed. Is it something I can take to the dealership and would be covered under warranty?

By having it locked it helps tremendously. It won't prevent all slippage but it helps keep the truck from fishtailing. Auto sensing is garbage for those conditions. I have older style Auto transfer case and it is not great for ice either. Locking it in prevents a lot of slipping. I also have auburn in the back so that could be a factor as a peg leg is better on ice really. You can defend the design but it is not a good one especially without option to choose whether it is equipped with it or not. A person who wants one of the fancier trims now has to get the BW garbage or go to a 2500.

BW makes the t-case for the cheaper trims too. And it's not garbage parts/design. The programming is garbage. This was discussed earlier in the thread. I've never denied or defended that point. People are extremely confused about how it works. I am not. And, I do agree that "Lock" should Lock the clutch in the transfer case full-time, until another mode is selected.
And, I do agree with your point about ice. However I'd rather not assume one 4x4 is better than the other when it comes to driving on ice, and rather exercise responsible driving habits instead... Unless I'm in an empty parking lot, of course.

no one knows for sure the cause yet but it seems to be a software issue. the 1st gear on the 8 speed is a pretty low gear so what seems to be happening is as it's down shifting it shifts a bit too early causing it to jerk similar to how a rookie would with a manual but 1st being so low makes it very noticeable. some have been thinking it could be due to one or more of the clutches not properly learning but either way it seems to be software related

if there's any updates the dealer can put them in which may or may not help or they could do a relearn which again may or may not help. for some people including myself it simply went away after awhile(8000km or so for me) while others have been stuck with it. i asked the dealer about it a few times but they could never reproduce it and the last time i asked they are now saying it's normal

Okay thanks. I just talked with them about it and the service manager said they could take a look at it. Guess we will see.

Mine went away but came back. I haven't had the battery disconnected or anything. Just one day it started back.

i just get a little shudder every so often. not anywhere near as bad as it was but still annoying when it happens. really more concerned what the long term effects are gonna be

Good luck with the whole dealership thing. I've been to two different ones and got it to act up with a tech in the passenger seat and even with showing them home videos they said it's normal and that's how it's suppose to act. There will most likely not be a software update because I also called ram ******** about it and they said it is what it is that's how it's designed to work then literally told me if you don't like it trade it in we can't ask our engineers to redesign something just because I don't like it.

I got the problem fixed on mine, traded in for an outdoorsman, saving 20$ bi-weekly to boot
How did you trade for a newer truck for cheaper? My local rip offs want 3 grand more to trade for a truck 3 years older with 3 times the miles and no options

All I can get is 32.5 out of mine on trade. Guess I'm keeping it cuz I'm not taking a 10k loss in less than 2 years. Ram can blow me

Ok so,basically I have a Subaru a really big Subaru

Sadly, other then the lack of low range, a lot of Subarus, have a far superior 4wd system then our Rams.

I have a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT with a 5 speed. It has a true awd system, with a viscous limited slip center diff, along with a limited slip in the rear differential. With the studded Hakka 7 tires, this thing is an absolute tank, and a real pleasure to drive in the winter!

It's a simple mechanical drivetrain, with no computers to decide when I want awd, as a result it's very predictable in icy conditions.

We had our first real week of winter around here, and my Ram has stayed parked. It's just too infuriating to use in icy conditions. It's a sad state of affairs, when a 11 year old Japanese car is far more suited for winter use, then a 2014 American made 4x4 truck.

There is nothing to assume, the on demand 4wd of the BW 44-44 is the worst type of 4wd for ice. A locked 4wd, or even awd with a center differential is far superior.

With the limited slip that most of our trucks have, as soon as the rear tires slip, the back of the truck will start to slide sideways. Our winter roads around here are far from smooth. They are often snow packed and icy. As soon as the rear end slips, these irregularities can abruptly shift the back end of the truck around. This makes for a very unpleasant driving experience.

Another benefit of having a true 4wd, is better, more controlled braking on ice, especially on rough roads, or roads with patchy ice. I find that I'm able to threshold brake, without activating the abs (which usually greatly increases stopping distances in winter conditions).

I've been emailing George at Rockland Standard Gear about the kit they are producing to turn the BW 44-44 transfer case into a part time case with locking capability. The kit is complete and has been in testing for 10 months with no issues. I am told the kit retails for $680. I am trying to get a link to its information ASAP.

I'm assuming this still will eliminate the auto feature? Which is fine by me, just curious if anything has changed since I've talked to him months ago.

From what I've read yes. However, you can select auto or lock and both will work the same
