So from my very little knowledge on these heaters.Oil pan heaters will warm the oil they will not warm the block, they are not as effective as block heaters for warming an engine in cold weather, they are better then nothing.
In my opinion and having tried them dip stick heaters to attempt to warm oil are mostly a complete waste of time and money.
The block heater, sits in a coolant passage in the block. And helps to warm the coolant going around it. Which warms the block, right?
But the oil will still be very cold and viscous.
The oil pan heaters will actually warm the oil. Making those nasty, dry cold starts a little easier.
I would much rather warm the actual oil than the block. Or is there some other trickery to the block heaters?
