Hey all. New member and first post. I’m working on my brother in laws 2021 ram 1500 warlock 6cyl and he’s had a transmission failure where coolant and transmission fluid have, against all Christian moral beliefs, mixed together and smoked the transmission. We’ve got a new transmission and before i install it, can I bypass the transmission heater unit and flush all the lines to the cooler…? Or am I better off buying a new transmission heater and replacing the old one? If it really only serves a purpose for fuel economy, I’ll just bypass the heater completely. Any and all help appreciated. Im no master mechanic but I work on vehicles a lot over the years so plenty capable. Just not very familiar with mopars. Thanks!

Is it necessary to modify the thermostat plug if i delete the heater, connect the coolant hoses together, and tap and plug the bypass holes like this thread you replied? The t-stat would still work and send the trans fluid to the cooler when up to temp like normal wouldn’t it?

On paper it should work, but i've never actually tried that scenero.Let us know how it pans out if you do go that way,as i'm curious on how that idea would work.

Why not just delete the heat exchanger for a couple bucks, and use Jesse Caulks thermostat bypass, way cheaper then revmax's overpriced plate.Never heard of the thermostat bypass you mentioned, post up a link to it.
When you're bored read the thread linked above,on how to delete the heat exchanger for all of maybe 3 bucks.

So for anybody wondering in the future, I’m still in the process of flushing the coolant system (filling with water and driving and draining, rinse and repeat) but so far on my short test drives the transmission temp is staying well within the safe range just looping the transmission heater coolant hoses together and leaving everything else alone. Will update if I have any issues in the future
