Hi Guys. So I have a 2013 Ram 1500 with the hemi 5.7. its got 336,000 KM on it. I had it in to the dealership because of an intermittent miss some noise, and a code of P0305. They diagnosed it as a bad cam and lifter on number 5. I was wondering if I could find a stock hemi same as mine WITHOUT MDS? I know I will need a tune . I heard some of the bigger rams had them like a 2500. can anyone tell me the VIN of the hemi without MDS. TIA Ben

this i just finished my 392 swap from srt/ scat pack still working out the tuning, but was well worth it. I also had the same problem with lifter failure.

5.7 Challengers with the manual transmission are a non-mds engine, anything with a manual transmission behind it,are non-mds ,including the 6.4's in the Challengers with a stick

Use the timing cover and sensors off your 5.7 and it's a bolt in,but you'll need a custom tune on your stock pcm.Talk to Chris Zelinsky of Player 3 Performance tuning in Edmonton,he's tuned a few 6.4 swaps. It'll give you an excuse to go to Edmonton, lol

everything swaps over it’s pretty much plug and play. The only thing that I had to do was swap over three sensors were different, but I bought a crate engine and obviously a new tune.

what is the best tuner? a bullydog gt platinum gas, diablosport? Ideally i'd like to find a stock non mds engine and tune my truck for economy with these tuners so basically just switch the mds feature off in the tune settings. can anyone tell me if this will work? or if my engine is not too far gone i wud just throw a non mds cam and lifters in it and the mds plugs.

Spring for HP,not many tuners are still using Diablo. You can access more parameters with HP,and if you're doing a 6.4 swap,it'll be your best option.

Are these all 6.4 BGE swaps (from the 2500) or are they the 6.4 SRT (charger/challenger/jeep etc)? Any real difference when it comes to swapping between them other than tune?

truck 6.4 is 10:1 compression with a semi decent piston that'll take some boost, the car/SRT 6.4 is 10.9:1 with a light duty piston, that really doesn't like boost. The cams are differant, with the truck cam focused on torque output. The truck 6.4 you can get away using it's oilpan and pick-up tube, while the cars front sump pan will need to be swapped, both need tuning but there'll be differances in the tune between the low compression and higher compression 6.4's.
Decent article here on the truck 6.4.
We used to have a guy that came to our local meets with a truck 6.4 swapped into his 1500,and he was happy with it,as it was a hell'va tire spinner, and the 6.4 was getting noticably better milege then he did with the 5.7,especially when he had his trailer hooked to the back bumper, plus it would pull grades better with less downshifting out of his 8 speed

So let me get this Strait. I can put a 6.4 in my 1500 sport and it is a plug and play swap? All I'd need to do is a tune or hp tuner for it to run?
BTW- what is the style #'s (such as 4l60 or 4l80 on chevy) for the 8 speed tranny for the 6.4

If using the higher compression car 6.4,you'll need to swap oil pan /oil pick-up tube /timing cover /sensors etc. off your 5.7 onto the 6.4 then it's basically an R&R job that you'll have to have tuned.

Your 1500 will have the 8HP70 rated at 516lb-ft continous
The 6.4 truck's with the 8 speed use a heavier duty varient of the 8HP75 rated at 553 lb-ft continous duty.
The 6.4 in the cars use the same 8HP70 as the 4th gen trucks use.
When they went to the new body style 1500 / 5th Gen they started putting the heavier duty 8HP75 behind the 5.7's
The last 2 digits of the 8 speeds are their torque rating in newton/meters multiplied by 10
The 8HP90 is 900nm or roughly 663 lb-ft.
The 8HP95 is 950 nm or roughly 700 lb-ft
Those are their continous duty ratings, they'll take more for short periods of time, like a drag strip pass, lol

My 6.4 supposedly came out of a 2016 srt jeep. (Used, so true or not I don't know) he had a 6 speed transmission behind it. I want to put the engine in a 83 firebird.

It would of had the 8 speed behind it in a 2016 Jeep. The SRT Jeeps never had a 6 speed, they either had the 5 speed Nag 1 or an 8 speed, they never got the light duty 6 speed RFE transmission like the trucks did.
Join a couple of the hemi swap pages on facebook, and keep us updated on how you make out swapping it into your Firebird
