ok so ive been curious since i bought my ram, after doing research on for my 67 charger build ive learned that i can actually swap alot of my 440 internals with 426 wedge internals to give my 440 more horse power and even more torque than it already was born with. does this hold true with modern hemi's? are alot of the internals from the 6.1 and 6.4's direct swaps as well? if so what specifically can fit into my 5.7 from the bigger hemis? id like to build mine up with as much as i can and then go after market upgrades unless you guys know of a better route in which case im all ears. also what is the best cam you guys have found for the 5.7? as far as cai and computer chip ive already decided that im gunna go with the vararam cai and diablo tuner im also gunna go with a magnaflow true dual exhaust kit so im trying to compliment those decisions with more pure motor hp. ive been trying to do my own research and avoid reaching out for help (im new to this sort of stuff my 67 is my first project car) but im continually getting lost or find contradicting information so i figured its time to turn it over to those who have been at this longer than me and ask for help lol

also im looking at bigger throttle bodys, has any one put an 87mm throttle body on a stock 1500? i was kinda thinking that i might as well just put a big ol throttle body on off the bat instead of wasting money and buying a 85mm for now and then going out and buying a bigger one when i get the motor built up. is this reasonable or a bad idea?

If it's a pre-'09 hemi then pretty much all the 6.1L parts will swap over. The crank is factory forged but you'd need different rods and pistons because there's a different stroke on the crank, also check the reluctor wheel as there are 2 different tooth counts available. Heads are a direct swap, the intake manifold would require machining of the timing cover and the accessory spacer bracket with a LMI Hammer or custom intake. 6.1L GC SRT8 headers will work with the 6.1L heads or you can use the '09+ headers which have the correct exhaust port shape. I would recommend the '09+ heads over the 6.1L heads because they're cheaper, flow better in stock form, and you can have a respectable 10.7:1 CR with a thicker head gasket and survive on pump gas. Eagle heads have the same intake and exhaust port shapes as the 6.1L heads.

Nothing from the 6.4L will swap over, cam is VVT, heads have interference issues on the 5.7L, and intake manifold would hit the A/C compressor and you'd need a stand-alone SRV controller, then you'd have to build a completely custom intake tube.

The 6.1L cam will swap but it's a boring cam in the 5.7L and there's lots of better cams out there.

I would recommend holding off on the throttle body until you need to upgrade the flow, the stock TB will flow more than enough air to supply even a modified truck.

Ahhhhh... Another 1st gen Charger fan. I have a 67 I am in the middle of a restoration myself with. Mine had a 383 when I bought it but now it has a 495 stroker. I still have a year to go (I hope) to finish it up but it's coming along.
This will be the 4th restoration I have completed and it has been the most challanging. I am sure you have discovered, unlike the 68 Ram Air Firebird, 70 Nova, 80 Jeep CJ-7 that I previously restored, almost nothing is available for this car in the aftermarket.

Good luck with your restoration! uploadfromtaptalk1436228364779.jpg
