Jumped on this thread since I've been wondering about fuel economy.
I just got my 2003 ram 1500 last week and so far the mpg have not been what I thought they would be. I've been pretty easy on the gas and around town I was getting 10.3

Just took a trip, and I realize driving through the mountains will decrease it but I was getting ~13 on the way up, and got up to 14.4 on the way back, but there was a lot of downhill coasting. I'm assuming this is the best I will get.

No idea of the gearing since the guy I bought it from was the second owner. It does have a K&N filter, but everything else seems stock. I have the quad cab 4x4 Laramie.

Any other mods or tricks to help or is this about the best I'm going to get? I should just keep my heavy throttle to my SV1000S motorcycle ;)

My 07 Ram QC 1500 2x4 has a best of 19.8 MPG @ 75 MPH no AC. 17.2 with AC. Combined 60/40 City/Hwy driving is 14.2 to 15.6. I recently used my Superchips Cortex, to load the advanced performance tune on my truck. I will have to see what the difference will be now. I can sure tell the improvement in power, and the trans. shifts very aggressive. I love it and I really have a hard time keeping my foot out of it.:waytogo:

Just got my 2014 Hemi Crewcab with 6.4 bed! I'm about to find out what if Ram putting almost EVERY known trick to mankind on the Hemi is going to squeeze out another mile or two of mpg....

Drove 800 miles from Anchorage to Haines Alaksa (highly recommended trip---IF you want to see basically NO civilization, just fantastic, brilliant country). I drove between 35 and 70 mph, and got 22.3 mpg for the trip! Incredible!! Then I towed my 24 foot trailer to Whitehorse Yukon, got 12 mpg over 400 miles, up and down mountain passes. Now I'm home, and on first tank of gas, I'm hoping for 17 mpg, which is what I was getting with my 2002 Toyota Tundra V6 with 5 speed tranny, we'll see, cheers!

Last weekend drove from Fort Worth, Texas to Jefferson, Colorado. Per the truck computer in my 06 1500 mega cab hemi I got about 16.5-17.5. All highway until got close to the cabin. Using 87 Octane. We're bout to leave and had back home and in gonna calculate it by hand. Normal driving my truck days in getting about 13 or so. The drive from the cabin is 790 miles. We usually treck along about 70mph-ish.

2013 with 33s, CAI, Magnaflow cat back, and 2 in level. I average out at about 15mpg on 70 mph-Hilly roads. If I stayed at 60 MPH I would prob avg out at 16.5/17 mpg.

19 mpg for a 3rd Gen seems good. Technology is getting better and better.
My last trip South Carolina to New York. (2013 V8 4x4 CC 3.21 gears 8 speed, stock)
Cruise set at 75-78 in Carolinas (rpms 1600-1700). Hit some traffic in major cities along route 95, so my average speed was 58 mph. Anything over 65 I noticed a decrease in Mpg. Carolinas and Virginia the posted speed is 70.. saw about 18-19 mpg on current mpg EVIC.
My EVIC averages 1.0 high.

Edit: Just filled up, Hand calculated 19.8 mpg. 721 miles, 36.4 gallons for the trip.

Most of my usually driving is city and get 13 stop and go.

I average 12.3 mpg city and hwy!! 2004 5.7 hemi 1500 has 145k miles. Super stock. Lol. I just popped a new Fram air filter in and no mpg improvement. The old one was .... Like cake batter with oil and dust. (Exhaggerating). Anyways I live in LA. And usually drive out of traffic hours. I'm wondering if I change out my fuel filter and change it's spark plugs maybe I'll get better mpg. My tires were really low and was avg 10mpg. Filled em up and now I get 12.5

Right foot attitude adjustment is about all I can say. How many miles on the plugs. That can hurt some.
