Would it sound better with just the tips and stock muffler?

Im assuming adding the 5" tips with the stock muffler would make the exhaust note change. How dramatic of a change is the real question.

I had a 18" magnaflow installed first, then changed the tips, so I can't say for sure how much louder 5" tips would be with the stock muffler.

Did you notice a difference at all? I have a mufflex 14" magnaflow. I want black tips, but if it makes it louder it's even more of a bonus.

I had an 18" Maggie and added the 5" tips afterwards, it was noticeably louder.

:) If you have an aftermkt dual cat-back and you replace the stock tips with--5"x18" tips--the difference is SUPER NOTICEABLE-

Not only is it louder, but the 18" "BELL" effect magnify's the sound and allows the rhythm/cycle/harmonic sound of the exhaust valve cycles--

It's very noticeable and pleasing--well worth the change-

Thanks for the comment JIMBOX, which 5X18 tips are you referring to?

:) Check ebay--5" exhaust tips"--

There are dozens--all depends on the finish/color/inlet diameter--

Good luck

:) None that I know of, only the stock tips/w expanded ends can use the factory clamshell clamps--

Do these bolt on using the factory clamps?

There may be some that can be used, but I haven't seen them, usually you'll have to cut the expanded end off the factory end and slip a 2,25" tip on then either clamp or weld-

The stock tips just unbolt and come right off, but that leaves the expanded end/pipe--I think the KNUCKLE diameter is2-3/4"--usually has to be cut off-

Here's a pic of the easy removable tips/w clamp

Good luck

The tips I got used the factory exhaust clamps. Very easy install. Took me about 20 minutes to complete.

Me too.

On the carvens can you not reuse the stock clamps??

Anyone got opinions on the carven tips vs moe's performance? Which is better sounding?

I just picked up a new 18 Laramie. I made my own 5” double wall tips bc I was running a dynomax catback and it had 2.5” tail pipes on my 14 express. On this new truck I’m keeping the stock exhaust or tailpipes for that matter. Ordered the new carven polished 5” slanted tips they were on sale for $199 shipped and I found a 15% off so I paid like $183 for them. They come with NEW OE clamps so you don’t even have to remove the old clamps. Took me 15 min to swap both out and they look good. If they give alittle more sound I’d be happy but mostly I just hate the puny stock 4” tips and I’m used to 5” from my other truck. Love how simple they installed and think they are pretty nice. $183 is a lot for tips only but I’m fine with it bc I’ve made tips before and 15 min is like a blink of an eye and they look really good.
