Hi guys. Looking for some shock options / opinions for my 2014 1500 with a 6” Zone. Truck currently has 5100s set at 2.1 and I’m looking for an upgrade. Debating between Fox 2.0s and Bilstein 5160s for the rear vs my current Zone shocks. They both are priced fairly similarly just not sure which is a better performing option. The truck doesn’t see much Offroad as it’s my show / cruiser truck, but the roads here in northeast PA are poor to say the least.

I guess it’s worthwhile to mention I have some 6112 sitting here as well. However, I’m currently debating on weather or not I should try and flip them towards a set of Fox 2.5 coilovers 7A19B52B-BE07-4720-9777-AA6B8FE0EF0C.jpeg

I wouldn't mix manufacturers personally, they are valved to work together front and back and will have different valving between manufacturers.

If money is not an issue fox 2.5 front and 2.0 rears will be a good setup and ride better than the 5100s and zones.

Same for the 6112 front and 5160 rear bisteins. Will be noticably better than the 5100s and zones.

Upgraded Bilsteins compared to Fox... Not sure there is a huge difference. Both are very good quality and will handle/ride nice and be an improvement over the 5100s. Since you already have the 6112s... Maybe a bonus point in that direction.

This also assumes you are going to pair the 6112s and fox 2.5s with their appropriate recommended springs...

Good luck!

Full length 2.0s would be nice as you can ditch the front spacers.

I'm still debating between the 6112 and 2.0s with a Zone kit. Planning on ordering from Nick@gotexhaust as soon as I figure my **** out lol.

@Dan90 yeah I prefer to not mix. Got these 6112 and now I’m just not sure if they are the route I want to go. I’ve also heard the 5160 valving is similar (or possibly the same) as the 5100. Not in a rush to upgrade since I have all winter to do this. I guess I should post the 6112 and see if I get any bites

In my experience Bilstein have great on road handling. With your rig being primarily on road and a 6" lift, might be the better option. I've read some reviews of the Fox shocks (factory valved, not custom) feeling soft and with a 6" lift might leave you with some unwanted body roll. I've ridden in an f150 with a 6" lift and fox 2.5s... body roll was noticeable... But I don't have much seat time with 6" trucks and no comparison to the 6112 bisteins at that ride height.

5160 and 5100 rear are valved the same. Worked in my favor as I like the ride of the 5100. Upgraded to 5160 on my truck and planning on 6112 front in the near future. Currently have 5100 front with eibach springs all the way around. Love the ride myself but everyone likes different feelings of vehicle handling.

Tough call, the 6112's and Fox 2.0's are both great options. If you can swing the full length Fox 2.5's it would be a huge upgrade over all of these options. Message us when you are ready for a quote on any of these items. Also let me know if you have any specific questions about these options. We have a lot of experience with all different combos.

The fox 2.0’s pair very nice with the 6112’s what rear coils do you have the 3 or the 5”

@Freed127 I have a zone 6” with the fox 2.5 full length coil overs if you want to stop down and go for a ride.

great setup! The Zone kit is already great, then add the full length 2.5's and it is a phenomenal setup. @Quick_Shifter knows how to set a truck up!

@Quick_Shifter ive got the 5” rear coils. Would you say the 2.0s are better for the rear than the piggyback 5160s? Kinda thinking I want the 2.5s for the front if I can sell the 6112’s, worst case I’ll run them.

I have procomp rear control arm drops, Core4x4 rear links and zone UCA’s to install this winter as well. So the 2.5’s are more fitting for my setup if I can swing them

GREAT combo, the lift, the shocks all great quality items that will give excellent drive ability on and off road. Having @Quick_Shifter do the install is the icing on the cake, that man has serious attention to detail and really knows his stuff!

I have my endgame setup with the KORE tactical suspension running Fox 3.0 coil overs front with custom UCAs and LCAs, Fox 3.0 bypass rear with springs and 4 link. Gives around 6" of lift and 14" of suspension travel on 35" tires. This is what comes on a Ram Minotaur.

Agreed! @Nick@GotExhaust gave me a great deal. Very easy to do business with, professional very responsive. @Quick_Shifter answered what seemed like endless questions from me via PM on here and did a flawless install. I asked him a lot of questions about all different lifts, from the redi lift system to what I finally decided on and everything in between. Honestly about a year of going back and forth. Not only did he answer all questions, but provided outstanding feed back and made awesome recommendations.

Quite a few of us in here have gone the @Nick@GotExhaust and @Quick_Shifter route. Takes all the guess work out of purchasing and installing the lift you decide on.

What's the height adjustment range on the Fox 2.5s? Is the min/max strictly 4" - 6" or can they be lowered closer to 3" - 3.5" of lift? If they can, will they cycle reliably that close to the bottom of the stroke?

I had to get a new retaining wall and fence at the new place (FML) so I'm trying to see if I can budget my suspension plans in stages here.

4"-6" is what they are designed to operate at. They are valved to operate in this range, I would not try to use them outside of the 4"-6" range. Especially if you plan to off road with them.
