What are your likes and dont likes about these trucks going offroad. What kind of offroading have you done with your 6.4? and what kind of upgrades have you made to your truck to make it perform better on dirt? I know the diesel HDs be ripping the dunes, catching air, and doing alotta crazy stuff, but imo properly equiped 6.4 should be even better at those things.

Since you are saying dunes then I am guessing you will be doing some moderately high speed off roading. For that I would suggest a good set of shocks that can handle the heat of the constant bumps of the sand dunes. Softer front and rear coils like the ones on the Power Wagon would also make the ride better and more stable at higher speeds. If you don't have a limited slip diff or lockers then that would be a good investment. The AAM electronic lockers that go on the PW are limited slip when not engaged and lockers when engaged. I wouldn't waste my money on any type of lift since they are mainly for making your truck look like and off roader than actually being one since most of the time a lift makes your truck worse for most off roading since it raises the center of gravity making it less stable.

I got Thuren's rear springs and they're very soft and perfect for offroading. they're even better than PW springs. In a couple of weeks Thuren will have front springs for gas trucks, so I will be getting those too and yes I will also be getting Thuren's custom tuned King shocks.. That should give me very decent offroad performance.

derag2:
ya those transforces are straight garbage!

Thuren makes a great product, and King is one of the best shocks you can buy. After that, you should be set for anything the dunes can throw at you. I didn't mention tires because from the looks of your avatar you already got that covered. Although speaking of tires, it helps to air down in the sand. How much depends on the tire and rim size. Some can go as low as 20 psi. Just make sure to bring a small emergency compressor to air them up before hitting the road.

Better tires, the factory firestone transforce suck horribly. I hold my breath every time I go off the pavment......

I get stuck on the flat in wet grass and have to use 4x4 to get out. Almost had to use 4x4 pulling a trailer with a mower going up a slight incline on dry ground. Can't wait for them to wear out. Spend all that money on a new truck and they can't even put descent tires on them.

Not really. After the Thuren coils and custom Kings you'll have a taller better handling truck. If you plan on high speed sand dunes you're going to break the stock drivetrain and suspension. If you have visions of prerunner desert racing you bought the wrong truck or at least have a long ways to go before your stock'ish 2500 will reliably take big/fast hits.

I've been there before. I got stuck in 4wheel drive in an inch of snow on the county road.... Had to back up and go forward again. ( no joke there were 2guys there to witness it)

Can confirm, this crap happens. Happened to me too. Glad I'm not the only one who's gotten stuck on wet grass. smh

Yea man those Kings aint cheap tho lol but I have never had King shocks before so why not get it right

Will Ram 2500:
I heard those transforces dont even wear evenly too for no reason

reloaderguy:
lol I definitely do not plan on making my HD 2500 into a full out desert prerunner - thats a long shot. BUT what I AM envisioning is a very comfortable yet quite capable offroad expedition type vehicle. I saw this video of this guy jumping his 2500 good 2 or 3 feet and got me thinking more about this topic. I can see he's got an axle truss and a whole list of mods&upgrades tho but still pretty impressive I'd say. https://youtu.be/cAVyXMuMWF4

Danno:
Raptor? Im not into pets that much.

You'll only get a couple of jumps like that before you break your truck. Kings are awesome and will go great with Thuren coils. If you plan on jumping your truck even a little let Don know and plan accordingly. Minimum you'll need a trussed axle and C's as well as stronger radius arms and mounts. You should probably consider 3.0" or 3.5" Kings.

Thats what I thought initially but lately I am seeing way too many people jumping their HD RAMs. For example that guy in the video jumps his truck all the time. Im not going to jump my truck but its good to know if u ever want to go that route, these trucks do have the potential.
