The 6.4 Hemi takes 0-40 BUT IT HAS TO BE MS 12633 material standards. Which Pennzoil ultra is only 1 of 3 oils that meet that standard. The others are hard to find.
My dealer l was using had some no name brand that did not meet standards. Then called Ram tells me oil must meet standards so engine will proform correctly and not have lubricating problems.
I even called Mobil oil they told me none of there oil meet the standards for the 6.4 hemi.
These motors are not like old days where you can just run 40w in summer or a thinner oil in winter. This one you can’t just use any 10-40 oil.

If you are so worried about it, just get on Amazon and order some pennzoil ultra platinum 0w-40...pretty easy. I have 4 cases of it in the garage.

Sounds good. What I was meaning is that others use redline, or other options in their 6.4 even though they don't meet spec. I have some redline 5w30 for mine since several people have run that and love it in the 5.7 or the 6.4. I'm going to try it next summer. On my last blackstone report, my PUP 0W40 after 4000 miles was thinner than redline 5w30 on alot of reports that I've seen. The PUP shears quickly down to a thinner weight.

Are you sure it was Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, and not Pennzoil Platinum? Lots of people confuse the two. PUP has been shown to test well in the high sheer testing I've seen results for. While PP has not tested as well.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what Burla has said, but my viscosity was lower than it should be...not by alot, but lower after roughly 4,000 miles. I remember seeing several redline 5w30 results being thicker than my PUP 0w-40 was. I will see if I can find my blackstone report and post it up.

Here was my last test with blackstone. It was 4933 miles, not 4000 like I said earlier.

My experience using PUP is with 5w20 in my 5.7's, and I switched to Redline 5w30 almost two years ago. I have yet to send in a sample of that though. Your viscosity number seems like an outlier. It's usually at or slightly higher than the "values should be" numbers in reports I've seen for PUP. Thanks for posting your report.

Guys - remember that RL 5W-30 is a borderline 5W-40 and doesn't shear hardly at all (I verified with a VOA versus UOA). Red Line is all API Group IV & V base oil (PAO & POE). PUP is a very good API Group III+ (Fischer-Tropsch GTL synthetic - it is not a catalytic cracked crude oil like most Group III synthetics).

PUP has since seen the light of moly additive, esp. for the Hemi since they were brand-affiliated with FCA prior to Peugeot merger to create Stellantis. So, at least for the PUP 0W-40 they were spiking with moly for the Hemi drama queen valve lifter rollers. BUT - it won't be as shear stable as RL 5W-30.

If your OCI is < 5,000 miles, you're probably ok with PUP. But is you live in a hot area and pull a beaucoup trailer up mountains frequently, I'd pay the extra for the Red Line.

I use Red Line 5W-30 in summer and 0W-30 in winter.

Actually, comparing the two I would expect a 5W-30 to test out with a slightly higher viscosity just because it probably starts out higher.

I drive 2015 Ram 2500 4X4 6.4 L Hemi I pull over 10,000 lbs regularly I am over 125,000 mile and have never used anything except Amzoil. I change my oil between 6,000 to 7,000 miles or if driving on dirt roads I will change at 3,000 I have never drained oil that is discolored.
