to the point, I have a family friend that just totaled his 2016 2500 with a 6.4. It’s offered to me fore cheap and it has low miles.

I have a 15 1500 with the 5.7 and 8 speed.

Has anyone done this swap? What is needed ? Plug and play?

Thanks in advance.

Hit up Jay Greene, Greene Racing on Facebook. He's got a monster 426 build in his 1500 that makes me drool. Not sure on all the details needed for the swap regarding harnesses and mounts, but mating up the 8 speed shouldn't be an issue since the SRT 6.4's use the same 8HP70's as the 1500.

is Jay using a 6.4 out of a ram 2500 or one out of a charger or challenger? Significant differences. This o.p. is talking about one out of a ram 2500 which does not originally mate up to an 8 speed transmission.

It definitely wouldn't be a plug and play swap

Last I saw his build was BGE short block. Most of the 6.4 differences, aside from SRT 6.4 block being a different casting before 2018 moving to the BGE block, come down to the completed long block. Apache and BGE heads are interchangeable and the '18+ cars are still running the same Apache heads and other hardware on the BGE blocks. I never meant to imply it's a plug and play swap, but certainly doable.

Go on Tuned Rams or High Performance Rams on Facebook, there's a couple of BGE truck 6.4 swapped 1500's.The guys there will know what all is involved, and as far as I know,it's damn near a plug-n-play scenario. A guy just put one in an 09 a week or so ago,and apparently it wasn't that difficult

All of that time and money for a slight increase in HP/TQ? I would rather spend the mods on increasing power for the existing powertrain. If you had a 10 year old truck with engine failure, this would totally make sense.

I was told the 5.7 has the potential to make sufficient HP and is rather cheaper/reliant in the long run. Take for instance my brother's '19 Hellcat. If he swapped out his drive pulley to a shorter one and added long tube headers with exhaust work he's close to 800HP!!! Are there any factory superchargers from Dodge's line up that'll work on our 5.7's in the 1500 chassis to give it that extra kick for us adrenaline junkies? Just curious.

Guys have put the Hellcat engine into a truck, and the blower has cleared the firewall.MMX's spacers/adapters to bolt the IHI blower onto a N/A 5.7 or 6.4 do raise the blower slightly, but not enough to create any clearance issues as far as i know. Lots cheaper ways though to boost a 5.7,as the MMX adapter kit is pricey as hell, and you still have to buy the blower. If you go onto You Tube there are video's of the Hellcat blower on both 5.7's and 6.4's,mostly on the cars, but it'll give you an idea of how the blower works on a N/A 5.7 or 6.4.
