1969 727 from Dodge Charger, has street fighter trans kit, not sure about stall but think around 2500-3000.
When I got the truck, shifted as it should, hard shift points but seemed like correct rpms. Fast forward to today(pun intended lol) and when in drive, starts off in first, but will over rev unless you back off throttle and stab it again and will shift into 2nd, no matter what rpm it won't go into 3rd like it used to.
Before everyone goes into valve body etc I believe it's the kick down. first thing I found was the bushing for the shift rod popped out and corrected that, probably contributed tot he problem of placing in gear, no longer an issue, but, the kickdown linkage I discovered has broken, where it broke is the stud at the point between the mounting bracket and throttle ball stud, where you would make the adjustment, cable still connected to the carb, fed through the bracket but no adjustment. I thought after seeing this it would have acted like it was removed all together and shift all 3 gears extremely fast, not the symptoms I'm experiencing.
I know I need to replace the cable, but does the symptoms make sense??
example pic of cable section to the carb and arrow where broke;

That sounds about right. Same setup was on my 2nd Gen truck. That adjustment was needed for WOT shifts.

Well I replaced the kick down, adjusted to what I think is right, but still seems like 1st to second no third, or...second start off then third. Here's why I suggest the later as when I'm up to speed, I can put it manually into second according to the shifter and it kicks down, but really feels like it's kicking down to 1st, and if I bring it up to neutral from drive while driving it goes into neutral, and i haven't owned it enough to figure which

So no success in new kick down and adjustments, talked to a tranny guy of 40+ yrs working on torqueflite's, says clutch pak good, governor good, valve body good, most likely shift valve possibly sticky, say same thing happened to him and after stabbing throttle several times started working for him, but I fell into a deal and got a BB torqueflite from a 440 Newport with only 50k for only 4bills, bargain yeah for me. Will probably swap it and have the other tranny gone through.
