alright I know that there is no tuning support for the 8 speed yet but it looks like they keep saying no ETA and they don't know and when a current project finishes up . I've been trying to follow this closely and keep seeing the same ole thing so anybody on here have the inside track or thoughts on the 8 SPEED TRANS tunning it looks like a whole bunch of people have been waiting for this for a long long while.

At 23k miles I just had a brand new 8spd installed if that matters. Doesn't instill much confidence.

I don't have a 8 speed or claim to be a trans expert but I really don't see there is a need to tune the trans. We have already seen it's way more efficient by dyno numbers and track times.

Not sure what else can be done. Raise the shift points maybe. If that's even necessary, could remove some TQ management?

it is very efficient but imagine what it would be if it was tuned .there is always room for improvement . shift points being the main one . a custom tune removes alot of TM but anybody that has a tune knows that trans tuning is the last step in making the vehicle more efficient in every way . if it's done correctly. everybody knows that just because the manufacturer made it doesn't mean it's the best or performs to its full potential

I don't know if it was puffing or not, but my salesman was telling me the stock transmission has 40 pre-installed tunes that the truck chooses from based on your driving style.

It may be why there is a transmission RE-learn procedure for our trucks. Or it could have been puffing...

it is possible but most car salesmen know very little about what they are selling but I'm sure there are some exceptions. but all those tunes are still based on what the factory wants it to be which like I said just cause the factory says it doesn't mean it's the best . take Ford for example (POS)

True, I know for 3.6L owners, a new tune and RE-learn process was added for the 8-speed clunk. It lowers the shift point to 0.0mph for going from 2nd to first gear.

There always is but I think with this trans the gains might not be much.

There's been a few so far. But a lot of people have complained about the clunking and whining of the trans.

I don't think that it's going to gain much either but it's the feel and the more efficiency that could be gained. if you have a tune with tm removed like I do you would understand what I mean by feel . if your stock or running a canned tune then no need for trans tuning in my opinion but for those of us leaning for the performance part of the truck with custom tunning and boltons and such then the more tuning options the better.

Honestly I've heard of too many 8 speed problems to buy one so I'm gunna be holding off on getting a new truck until they get the bugs worked out and can figure some more tuning options

I haven't heard of many issues with the 8-speed. Mine has been trouble-free so far (about 7500 miles). Super smooth transmission.

The ZF 8-speed is new(ish) to the Ram trucks, but it's been around since about 2010 with pretty reliable results. The list of vehicles it's used in:

Alfa Romeo
Aston Martin
Audi
Bentley
BMW
Chrysler
Dodge
Iveco
Jaguar
Jeep
Lancia
Land Rover
Maserati
Ram
Rolls-Royce
Volkswagen

Pretty cool if you ask me.

This.

And I've only found a couple "failures" online. The failures weren't usually a failure but warranty replacements due to reverse whine and hard shifts from time to time.

I haven't heard of many issues with the 8 speed either. I love mine, shifts nice and smooth, very responsive and has been working flawlessly. Also, I have 33,500 on mine so far.

I have been reading more and more issues on here. Usually ends with people getting them replaced under warranty. They complain about a wine and hard shifts.
