So I have come to a crossroads. I have a 96 dodge ram 2500 and a 98 2500. The 2 are identical, 12 valve long bed extended cab 2wd automatics. My 96 had been my daily until it started to consume about a gallon of oil every 60 miles. I bought a 98 12 valve a year ago and it is a decent truck, but the 96 is all around in better condition. So the 98 has been slowly falling apart. The suspension is not as good as the 96, and now I blew a hole in my radiator. The 96 has a good heater, the 98 does not. Everything electrical on the 98 is also bad. So my thought is to take the engine and interior out of the 98 and transfer them to the 96. I like the cab on the 98 though, being a quad cab as opposed to the extended cab. One question I have, are the heater boxes the same on both trucks? I want to swap the 96 heater box and steering column as well as better harness and dash into the quad cab, but are they the same? I have attached pics of both trucks. The green one is the 96 and the blue one is the 98

Yes only difference is your 98 might have a electric blend door motor. The 98 seat mounts are different along with the main dash harness plug. So you can't use any wiring from the 98 on the 96
