Just the past couple months my truck has started to run like crap around 45-55 in overdrive, Flip overdrive off and it seems to clear up and have good power. changed the TPS, cap and rotor, New copper core plugs and new wires, cat was replaced about 2 months ago. Today i finally threw a CEL and ran by Autozone, comes up a CYL 7 Missfire...any ideas? or possible routes to get to the bottom of this? i just want it to run right so i can get around have a good summer lol thanks in advance!

Only thing I can think is to check the injector, unplug it and the rpm's should drop ever so slightly, but if it was a bad injector, it would do it all the time I would think, Right? I would at least check the injector until someone with a lot more expertise chimes in. I guess the timing, distributor, coil, spark plugs, plug wires and electrical components, including the charging system could be a culprit.
Hope you get it figured out man.

Having the same issue 5.2 engine on a 99 changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, as well as doing a full intake rebuild all new gaskets took it to a friend who has worked on them in the past and said it would be the lower intake gasket. did both the upper and lower as well as the plenum plate gasket i have 245xxx miles on it so i did the valve cover gaskets as well need to run the codes again but still having the issue my misfires were 1 3 and 8

I would suggest you all do a comp or leak down test on your motor, see what kind of shape they are in.

The Magnum heads are prone to cracking between the valves. This will cause a lack of comp resulting in a missfire. So before you go spending cash on parts do these ez tests.

Is there a way I can do the compression or leak test or do I have to take it somewhere?
