I know there are a crap load of P0441 threads. But I haven't seen any that talk about it coming back every 2 months.
Initially got the "gas cap" alarm probably about a year ago, so ran to AutoZone, grabbed a Dorman cap off the rack, as my truck was ~7 years old, so maybe the gasket was shot.
Ignored/reset the alarm a couple times over the next few days until it upgraded to a CEL/MIL. Jumped to Youtube, and found out about the ESIM, so grabbed that for $20 off amazon (now $40 into this), and spent 45 minutes under the truck, as I couldn't get the new DORMAN unit to latch. Until I finally got pissed off enough I sent it. A little later, the code came back, so I changed the purge valve. (Now $60)
I also had a parasitic at this time if it matters, so the RAM soon got a 12V solar panel in the moonroof, and a jumper pack permanently kept in the truck.
Alarm cleared for ~6 weeks. Then on the way back to NC from FL, had issues with the engine STARTING after I filled up. (Fuel Econ was also down the crapper, so had to fill up 2x, instead of 1x.) got home, as it was ONLY right after filling. Did plugs for the second time at this point. (did them around 55k, and again at ~107k when this started.)
Got some other codes, and finally went to the local "super" mechanic (the one that set's his own rate, and everyone follows him around regardless of which shop he works for), and he dug around, and said the purge valve was dead again. chalked it up to crappy Amazon part.
2 months later, again. He warrantied the valve, but also said the fuel pressure sensor was bad, as when he jimmied it, the ESIM clicked.
Cool! Issue fixed!
Except not. This morning, 7 weeks later, I get my CEL/MIL turned on about 5 minutes after I left the house. Pull codes with Torque Pro. "Historic Fault, P0441"
I didn't look with Alfa, as I was driving in the rain, and just pissed off at this point.
2018 Ram 1500 Rebel CrewCab, 4x4 Hemi, ~119k miles on the odo.
I'm tempted to just ignore it, as the only thing I see from the RAM is that I have to be careful when I fill up to only fill to ~7/8, not the full tank. I USED to top up, but now when the pump clicks, I stop. Been doing that for the last year at this point.
Mechanic last time suggested it's the "carbon" thingy on the gas tank (brain farting on the term) if this doesn't work this time. Which seemingly requires me to drop the tank, and I don't have a lift to use to make this not be me on a crawler trying to pull the tank from under the truck.
Truck is basically bone stock, other than me adding the tow controller, the aforementioned solar panel (plugged into the rear power socket), and a catch can, as I did some faulty research ~3 years ago. I know I'm getting into lifter failure, so planning the cam shaft in a couple months, but I don't see how that is related to the purge valve failing every 7 weeks. Truck runs fine otherwise, just the CEL/MIL light, and the economy suffers.
