I have have a 2014 Ram 1500 express with the 8.4 Nav upgrade. The A/C blows cold air most of the time but every now and then it blows hot air and after about 20 minutes it gets cold again. I just had the truck in the dealership and they did a complete evac and recharge of the A/C system on Saturday, it got hot again today but I made it back to the dealer. The service advisor got to see that it was blowing hot air. He said to bring it back in and leave it for the day. After $164 I am not sure if I am real comfortable taking it back again for more costs. Does anyone have a clue as why this might do this, Maybe the recirculation door? Thanks in advance!

Blend doors are the most likely culprit. If it makes you feel any better my 900 mile 18 is doing the same thing. :)

My 2014 did it and so does my 2018. When it happens I just switch briefly to another mode (heater, fan, etc) and then switch it right back, which corrects it. I've guessed its a glitch in the software, but whatever it is this easily corrects it whenever it happens.

I tried that, it doesn't work. Thanks for the idea though.

My 2012 does the same thing... After about an hour on the road, it starts blowing hot air... Switching the air mode doesn't fix mine, however, I have to pull over, turn the truck off and back on, then it works fine for a while. I wouldn't care so much if the interval were longer, would give me an excuse to pull over for a leg stretch or a Coke... I haven't had the time to look further into it yet...

Definitely blend door actuator. What is happening is the actuator is resetting with power cycles. It’s not a software problem.

Hello Rherman1,

I understand your desire to reach a solution for this. If you end up going back into the dealer, let us know. I can get a case started on this and can escalate to a Case Specialist for further assistance.
