I am going to change the battery in my 2015 1500 SLT with Pentastar this spring just because of age !
YES I used search box but no real answer !
Does the 2015/GEN4 charging system have enough juice to fully charge the AGM Battery ?
I have read mixed reviews on it!
Thanks

If the battery survives the winter and performs adequately, it will likely last the warmer weather in spring & summer. I usually replace batteries in the fall.

The second battery I installed in the Tundra lasted 8 or 10 years before cold weather starts became marginal. In the later years, the battery was not well treated, the truck was parked too often and for extended periods.

If I had concerns about battery age, I'd load-test it with a toaster-style battery load tester, $20 from HarbourFreight.

Other food for thought, is having a Lithium jump pack to potentially save friends, neighbours, and strangers or yourself and to avoid connecting unknown vehicles to your truck with jumper cables.

I've been looking out for a good jump pack on sale, just a nice piece of mind and leave the jumper cables at home.

I've had a Lithium powered LED light in my truck for months and at the last check, the battery state of charge hasn't moved since I left it in the console.

RADO,
I had the same concerns with my 2017 Pentastar RAM. I never did come to a definitive answer no matter how much I searched. I have used AGM batteries in my previously owned motorcycle and motorhome and was very happy with their performance. Being a convert I decided to go forward with an AGM for the RAM. It has been a year now and I have not experienced any issues. I do have an AGM dedicated battery maintainer that also does a desulfating routine developed for AGM in an effort to insure that the battery gets a full charge I run it twice a year or whenever I know the truck will be sitting for more than a couple of days. The truck has been covered and idle for the past month and the maintainer has been on it continuously.
This routine seems to work for me. However, I do know people who use AGM batteries in vehicles that originally came with flooded batteries and they seem to have no issues at all.

I Beleive there is a selection in alfaobd, I'll have to check to confirm this. But I recall seeing somewhere you can change your battery type to make sure you get the proper top charge on your battery.

Also if you're looking for a nice handy jumpstarter I use antigravity batteries jumpstart xp-10 battery pack. It's small and will still start a diesel. Mines getting old but it still does a decent job.

Your question remains unanswered. I have read that the charging system will only charge enough to meet the truck's demands and that it will not fully charge. I was hoping your question would be answered - still waiting.

I occasionally put the charger on to ensure the battery is fully charged

There are 15 battery types in AlfaOBD, numbers 1 through 15, no other info.

I wrote to Alexey, he had no further info but threatened to look around for more answers.

Maybe we should have a poll, have AlfaOBD users verify the battery type # with different battery types installed.

I had a big ole Group 27 AGM in my trucks relocated battery box,and the trucks charging system never had any issues with keeping it fully charged.

Goats a great idea. I knew I seen the options in there just never had any reason to pursue that avenue.
