I took my truck in for a standard service and road trip prep. We talked about my radio issues and my tuner for a little bit.
1) my radio randomly changes stations and the charging port does not work correctly anymore for my phone. They are going to replace the radio when I return as it appears to be a hard drive issue.... Joy.....
2) I have three PCM updates that they will not perform since my tuner is in place. I flashed it to stock but it does not matter. He said that the tuner could potentially cause early wear on some components but they have only had a small percentage of issues with their customers and tuners. One equalled 7000 but who knows the whole story. The dealer informed me that performing the update would be a waste since I will flash it right back off with the tuner and I should continue to have positive experiences with everything. He could see all of my flashes in seconds after me pulling up. Crazy how all that plays out!

Long story short, love their service department and hate their sales department. Just wanted to pass this along for those on the fence or those who only hear bad experiences. He actually complimented the bully dog and truck.

Not to hijack your thread, but I know I was able to change the ECM on my GMC Sierra. Is this possible on a RAM so that the flashes stay on another module?

A guy I work with has a '13 Challenger with a Diablo tuner. He returned it to stock and took it in recently for some warranty work. He's got a buddy at the dealer and he says there is an internal odometer that stops ticking when you flash a tune. They have been instructed to take note of this odometer and the visible odometer at each visit to the dealer. Since he's buddies, this was not done, but the tuners definitely leave a foot print now.

This is why I have held off buying a tuner, or any other performance enhancing device. I have the lifetime maxcare and don't want to give them an excuse not to pay out on it if I have a problem.

Today made me that much happier I bought one. All went well and I got to see how the dealer sees everything. It showed each flash right off the bat. No worries and I would never not have a tuner now!

It doesn't surprise me that they can tell if it's been tuned even if you have flashed it back to stock. If you have a tuner and are still under warranty and you have a catastrophic engine or transmission failure, they can deny the claim. All the proof they need to show is that you installed a tune, which directly controls these. What would have been a defective part replaced under warranty can be seen to them as a part damaged by extra stress on the motor/transmission from a tuner.

It's not like an aftermarket intake or exhaust which would be much harder to prove as having the potential to cause damage. A tuner affects air/fuel mix, rev limits, etc which really can and does add extra stress.

The chances of getting into this sort of situation are pretty slim, but there's always the chance.

So if you are under warranty, it's just something to think about.

Which dealer did you go to? I hate the one in Grapevine. Would love a new one if it isn't too far
