I meant pick up some new stock height coils and throw the spacer on top of the new coils... my thinking is that my ones on the truck are 14 yrs old and have sagged so new stock coils and a 2.5" spacer would give me 3"s + of lift from where it currently sits now

Oh ya in that case nope nothing required. I thought you were talking 2500 coils for some reason...

No worries, sorry for not clarifying! I was considerin putting 2500 coils in and the 2.5" spacer but with only 33"s I think the tires would look small.

But ya im hoping to gain 3" from where it currently sits (new stock coils with 2.5" spacer)

Does anyone have experience with how much the oem coils from the factory shrink after 14 years?

And does anyone know the difference between "variable rate" coil springs and "professional" coil springs on rock auto?

Variable rate tends to be a smoother ride and tends to stiffen up when needed. (i.e. cornering/wheeling/yada yada) And if "professional" means constant in this instance than it means they will ride less comfortable on road. Less give in the coil. But maintain a constant ride height.

Anyone feel free to correct or add. Just spitting what i know.

Linear springs have one spring rate and will maintain that spring rate regardless of how much its compressed. Progressive springs have various spring rates, usually low at first but get higher as its compressed. They have tight coils at one end and more gap at the other, the tighter section being softer.

So I should go with the variable spring rate for a smoother ride But it won't keep me at the same height all the time..??

Not going down the road or flexed out, but parked it should keep you at the same height. The only reason the variables don't keep you at the same height is because they give more than the constant/linear/profesional. The same way if you welded a steel bar from your axle to your frame in place of the springs, your ride height would be the the same all the time, but you would hate life while driving that truck.

So it's a much better all around idea to go with variables? They are also about 30-$50 cheaper than the "professional" ones on rockauto

The reason I'm changing out to new cois is that I'm hoping the new coil will make the truck sit about .5" higher than it sits now then I'll throw on my 2.5" spacer for a total lift of 3" from where it currently sits...

Thats atleast what im hoping for! Is my thinking wrong?
