In Auto AC mode the AC light is not on while compressor can be observed engaged. Cycling the AC button turns the AC light on and off but doesn’t change compressor engagement. Seems the AC light isn’t linked to Auto AC function. Any ideas?

Auto is auto, you cannot turn off the ac otherwise it's in manual control. AC switch only works when you manually adjust fan or air direction.

I also noticed in my truck that auto will turn the AC off depending on your set temp. Kind of like your home AC.. it'll kick back on when the temp in cab rises above the set temp
