Hey guys, I have a 1999 3.9 v6 mag with 180k miles. A couple weeks ago I replaced my water pump and serpentine belt but this morning I noticed a hissing sound coming from under the hood, it was obviously a vacuum leak and I quickly pin pointed the problem, my ac compressor was not moving and causing the noise, the hissing noise is absent when the ac is off but yet the ac compressor still doesn't spin even with the ac off. I made it through a grueling Florida summer without ac and can make through the cooler months without it and the repair is too costly for my budget right now, my plan is just to purchase a smaller serpentine belt, so if anyone has had this problem what size serpentine belt has fit your ram to by pass the ac compressor? Also, I have read on other forums the belt sizes other people have found to fit their new AC compressor free configuration, but I have the less popular v6 motor and can't seem to dig up any info on it with this particular problem, my question is are the pulleys and serpentine belt configurations a universal size no mater what the motor? Help is greatly appreciated. :)

For $40 you can get a bypass pulley. It uses the serpentine belt you already have and bolts in place of the compressor.

After that start checking junkyards for a good pulley. If the truck you pull from is still full of refrigerant and you can spin the pulley by hand and can make the clutch spin by hand as well, the compressor is still good. Wire brush any rust off
