Have been hesitant to try it after reading warnings of possible problems. Don't want to open that can of worms if I don't need to.
Hmm,

Well maybe someone that already has the pages active can try to also enable the “actual gear setting” and see if it works to display on the cluster.

If it does, then it’s worth it for me to try and enable the SRT pages just for that alone. :)

Unless I’m missing something, sounds like changing “vehicle is an SRT” caused no issues and they were able to change from No to Yes and back without issues. The problem came when he tried to use the SRT cluster.

Unless I am reading it wrong, but sounds like no issue with the stock cluster

Have also compared a 2017 Durango that also had the current gear information show. It was not an SRT, so perhaps that isn't the setting we would want to change anyways. It is interesting that both the 2016 Challenger and 2017 Durango were both paddle shift vehicles instead of the ERS.

Gets me thinking that perhaps by enabling some of the settings tied with that it might pop up the current gear info. Namely, some combination of the following:

Paddle Shift Feature Present: Yes
Paddles Lock-out Feature Present: Yes
Paddle Shift CSM Present: Yes

Shift Feature Autostick / Electronic Range Select Status: Autostick Present
Electronic Range Select (ERS) Available: No
Actual Gear Display: Yes

Transmission Drive Mode Feature Present: Yes

I wondered about that, too. But perhaps deleting ERS will prevent the ability to engage it and turn off the MDS. I know when I engage mine, it also changes the the xmission shift programming and a do get engine braking / locks up torque converter from freewheeling after 2 or 3 seconds of deceleration. These are feature I would insist on keeping over the always on gear position.

I believe my Diablosport Trinity EX tuner display has gear display ability on it.

If you do try it, please let us know one way or the other if it works or not. This has kind of peaked my interest.

I once fooled around with those settings and had grief. The power steering (EPS) became full manual, CEL, and PowerTrain faults lit up.

That happened during an occasion when I attempted multiple AlfaOBD tweaks all at once.

I reset all the adjustments, the EPS returned immediately, the light show cleared after several ignition cycles.

I'm interested to hear how this exploration goes too.

Unfortunately still no gear indicator with those options enabled.

Does get me thinking though… as I mentioned earlier I know GDEs trans tune can enable the indicator to be always on. They use Alientech, but I’ve done my tuning with HP Tuners. I wonder if I map the normal “drive” table to use the “manual” table instead, would that also turn on the indicator while keeping it in normal operating mode?

I have a request into HP tuners to see how this might be possible. I know the GDE folks also have the +/- buttons work like a traditional paddle shift instead of the ERS setup… they are checking to see if this is something they can add as well.

Still checking in Alfa though, just need time to review all the BCM readouts and do more comparisons.

Join this facebook page, there's some really smart guys on it in regards to the ZF transmissions. Both Russell Drake of Sound German and Chris Miller of Pure are on here, along with the guys from Turbolamik etc.
They've even figured out how to make the ZF have a clutch kick, but thats more for the guys drifting who need a clutch kick to boot the rearend sideways.
