I looked at Kicker Hideaway, Rockville USS8, Cerwin Vega VPAS10, Kenwood KSC-SW11. Based on reviews, pricing, and other factors I narrowed it down to the Rockville USS8 and the Cerwin Vega VPAS10.
I made a cardboard box mock up of the Cerwin Vega and the Rockville to simulate the physical size of the unit and found I could not get either of them to fit under either of the front seats. I might have been able to shoehorn the 8" Rockville under the passenger seat but it would have required removing the tire jack. I ended up getting the Rockville USS8 and put it behind the rear seat back. (This placement requires doing the fold down back seat modification.)
If I were to do it again, I would probably get the Rockville 10" powered sub instead of the 8", since it would fit behind the back seat.
I've had it for over three years now and it's been trouble free. Like you said, it adds bass punch to the songs without being overpowering (though I can see my outside mirror vibrating and feel the bass rattling the drivers seat.) The difference is easily noticed if I place the key in the accessory position (light on bass response) or turn on the truck (Subwoofer power ON.)
