I’ve searched through the forum and found mixed answers to this topic.
I have a 2012 Express that came with heated power mirrors (non-power folding) I’ve read some threads here about adding the turn signal/puddle light mirrors to an Express model that didn’t come with that option. Some have been able to go to the dealer and have them activated. Others have not.
According to an internet search I did earlier, I found an article originating from a different Ram forum (that was 4-5 years old) stating that they can’t be added at the dealer and to hardwire them in is the only way. This led to a 3hr long process which included tearing the dash apart and the headliner with unavailable photos of the process.
I’d really like to avoid all that. I’m not scared to do some wiring work, but tearing apart the whole interior to do so seems excessive.
I bought a nice set of mirrors from a member here and I pulled my passenger side door panel off to get an idea of what I’ll be dealing with.
The door module has two active ports which the puddle lamp mirrors plugged right into. (My OEM mirror uses only one of those ports) Of course, it doesn’t work. No turn signal, no puddle lamp. Heat & power works.
So, is this something that the dealer can do, or not? Is there a way to tell? Do I need to replace my door modules with ones from a Ram that was equipped with those mirrors? Looking at my door module tells me the port is there for a reason and that it should work... if activated... right?
If this isn’t an option, has anyone here hardwired these mirrors into their truck that didn’t have to play demo derby on the interior? I couldn’t find an article with an install write-up or guide regarding this topic. Some said they did it and then the thread went cold after that. Some of the others are a couple years old.
I’d really appreciate any input/assistance from anyone who has been through this. I called a local dealer to explain the situation and the service advisor actually hung up on me in mid sentence. I called back and no answer. Real professional...
I don’t want to install the mirrors and drive to the dealership to see if they can activate them only to be told it can’t be done.
Thanks in advance for anyone’s help, I really appreciate it.
