my audio controls at the wheel stopped working someone already passed through this
AFAIK, the audio controls aren't controlled through the BCM, they are strictly a wiring modification. I recently installed a set and they were plug and play. Maybe a bad connection in your steering wheel?

Clockspring issue would be my guess....do you have issues with turning cruise control on/off too?

Does anyone know how to get the soft key for auto dim rear view mirror to show up on the 8.4?

I installed the non auto high beam, but no button on radio.

Do you have the alpha tool to enable the code?

As Rick stated, you would definitely need the tool to enable anything. I will say though that the auto dim rear view worked right away before I did anything with codes. It didn't communicate with my driver or passenger until I enabled both sections on the known list. If you do have the tool, what have you enabled so far? And also, do you have the exterior mirrors as well, if so, which ones?

Even if you didn't install the auto high beam, you would still need the Interior EC Mirror Present of that section, which is also listed right below with the "Mirrors Interior Rear View and Exterior".

On some trucks that originally came with the RA1 radio with the backup camera option in the mirror they already had the auto dim feature programmed but you cannot control it on the screen, it is on by default. In most cases the RA2 trucks had the non autodim mirror because the backup camera was usually usually in the screen instead of the mirror. On these trucks the autodim mirror will not function at all until the codes are enabled.

This one actually caused a lot of confusion back in the day as guys started changing there mirrors after the 8.4 upgrade to the auto dim Assist/911 mirror. It would semi function in some trucks but not in others. Unfortunately in most cases this is a another code the dealer cannot enable. Luckily we have the alpha tool now and can easily enable the codes needed for the autodim mirror to function and also have the soft key on the screen to turn it on and off with the 8.4 radio. Remember the soft key to turn it on and off will not show up on the screen even if the code is enabled on the 3.0 and 5.0 radios.

For mine I enabled the below, which put the Rear View Auto Dim "Toggle" button on the Apps menu on my RA4, as well as in the settings.

Interior EC Mirror Present
Select “yes”

Under “program customer features”

EC Mirror Auto Dim
Select “enable”

HUGE UPDATE:

2012 Ram IS SUPPORTED. I was able to enable a ton of things and all work perfectly. Here is a list of what I did so far.

Vehicle Configuration 2:

Rear camera present : Set
Inverter present : Set
Compass temperature display : Set
Navi present : Set
Reverse chime : Set
Power Folding Mirrors : Set
Remote steering wheel switches : Set
Power left front seat : Set
Power right front seat : Set

Vehicle Configuration 3:

Power inverter type :Momentary

Vehicle Configuration 4:

Interior EC mirror present : Set

Reconfigurable:
Quad headlamps present : Set (this one still shuts off lowbeam when high beam is enabled so I have to look into this.
Or could be that I have foglamp dropout disabled

Foglamp dropout : disabled

Cabin network:

Navigation : Set
Trailer Module : Set

P/T Chassis Network:
ITBM Integrated trailer brake module : Set

If anyone can shed light on why even though I enabled quad headlamps that my low beams still turn off when activating high beams. Please let me know. I haven’t tried yet but it could be the fact I DISABLED foglamp dropout. I have heard some had this working but the law says no more than 4 lights on the front of any vehicle activated at any one time.

I’m super happy now and found the module I used was a clone. A very crappy clone. My buddy took his supposed OBDLink MX apart and found it was elm 327 clone as the developer found. Mine I used were elm327 1.5 and they didn’t work either except for 1 feature. The ITBCM.

@Aaron Gilliam Congrats! Adding to the list of notes.

When you have time (unless you already have) run over to the Google Play store and leave a review. Give some details about your truck. Hopefully he will see how much of the Ram community is using his program and perhaps he will keep developing and expanding in years.

@Ghost_RAM Oh I absolutely will!! I didn’t purchase via the play store but I hope it will allow me to leave feedback anyways.

I’m like a kid in an candy store now. I was going to spend the 500+ for the AE tool but Alexey was awesome and worked with me and when he debugged found it was a clone tool that was trash. The OBDLink MX rocks!!

I just cannot connect to the cluster using the OBDLink MX. I think it’s because I’m missing the 125k can ar the obdlink port position 6 and 14. So I will add that and I’ll be good! So just tips for pre canbus B (2013 and up), the cAnbus did change and if you add led lights, it may still shut off headlights even with decoders. They implemented reading the resistance and voltage drop over the light being on and if it doesn’t match it will shut your headlights off after 30 mins or so.

Also they didn’t bring canbus 125k to the OBDII port. That’s achieved by going to drivers door panel and bringing it down from the green 16 way connector or on the back of the WINS module.

I’m not sure which position is which yet. Can 125k hi on pin 6 or 14?
Can 125k lo on pin 14 or 6?

Just more tips and help for the guys that have older rigs. I wish I could afford a newer truck but I love my ram now that it’s custom.

I have a 2016 Limited and I suppose I have already all possible codes already activated (DRL are also activated).

But could I have any advantage using this tool?

Honestly a Limited is going to have pretty much everything that we are able to add already. If you bought the tool you could add the global down feature which rolls down your windows with the key fobs you could change the location of your DRL's
you could disable your fog light drop out and change your tire size if you ever decided to go with a bigger tire and a lift kit and maybe a few other things but that's probly about it. One thing about the tool this nice is it's also a great diagnostic tool that can read DTC codes as well as CEL codes plus modules and other configurations. If you are DIY kind of guy and do a lot of your own mechanical work at maintenance it's definitely a nice tool to have for that as well.

I have a Limited as well and bought it to activate the DRL, add the tow mirror option to the truck as I added tow mirrors, to have the ability to add the rear cargo camera in the future and activate it should I want too.

Along with the other things listed like disabling the fog lamp drop out, being able to enable different screens and such.

If anything else this is a great tool to have so you don't need to visit the dealer.

So if I add some hardware to it I can activate it myself and don‘t need to go to the dealer. Ok I get that.

What is about the fog lamp drop out?
What can you achieve with this?

The fog light drop disable makes it to where when you activate your high beams it doesn't automatically disable your fog lights so you can run your fogs with your high beams if you want. The dealer cannot change this setting because it's not allowed by Chrysler.
